Presenting to you, Bhangra City: Folk with an Edge Competition 2019! Bhangra City is an opportunity for local and international Bhangra dance teams to travel to Vancouver and showcase their Bhangra talent, while spreading the culture.
The Lower Mainland has produced many Bhangra teams and academies, and it is also considered a worldwide hub and a trendsetter for Bhangra dance, but there has been a lack of opportunities for dancers in British Columbia to compete close to home. The competitive Bhangra scene is flourishing in the United States with several competitions spread throughout the country. In Canada, we hare limited to a few competitions, with the numbers decreasing.
Our hopes are to provide local junior and senior teams the opportunity to participate in a competition in their own backyard, while also attracting some of the top-tier junior and senior international troupes. By hosting the competition in August, we hope to provide international teams an opportunity to travel to our beautiful city, soak in the culture and spirit, and compete against some of the best Bhangra talent!
Bhangra City: Folk with and Edge Competition 2019 is a junior and senior competition and will be held on the Civic Holiday long weekend, on Sunday August 4, 2019 at in Vancouver, British Columbia!
Registration Deadlines are as follows:
Early Deadline: Sunday April 14, 2019 at 11:59 PM PST
Regular Deadline: Wednesday May 1, 2019 at 11:59 PM PST
Late Deadline: Sunday May 12, 2019 at 11:59 PM PST.
If you're interested in judging, we will be releasing more information in the coming weeks on how to apply!
