Hello Everyone,
We at Motor city Bhangra started something 6 years back which was to be one of the only Folk and traditional Bhangra in the circuit. While we are not against the fact that Bhangra is growing and evolving each and every day. We wanted to organize something to showcase the true essence of Folk and traditional Bhangra. We as a committee have worked hard to continue bringing it back every year since we first started organizing it. We have learned a lot during the way and have grown as a committee. We really appreciate all the love, support and critics we have received over the years. Everything have helped us to be where we are today.

This year we want to take it up a notch and we start that off with our judges panel. We are honored to have such esteemed judges in our panel and feel very confident that this year will truly set a benchmark for folk Bhangra in Detroit Michigan on March 31st 2018.

The judges and their Bio are as follows-:

Jindy Singh (Toronto,ON) is a proud co-founder of Toronto All-Star Girls -an independent and passionate group of sisters who share a love for performing the art of Punjabi folk dance. Through TAG, she hopes to empower women and little girls to break barriers and engage and embrace Punjabi culture. With the massive popularity of previous performances, Jindy is truly humbled to have established TAG as one of the best all-girls team across North America. Along with her coach Amrit Singh Grewal and a couple of other team members, Jindy established TAG in 2009 and has been dancing and choreographing for a total of 9 years. TAG have competed in both music and live categories at competitions. Jindy now plans to extend her team’s pursuits by giving back to the community with the recent launch of TAG Global Initiative (TGI). She has led her team to placings at numerous competitions throughout North America.

Not only has she contributed immensely towards Bhangra. She has equally excelled in the knowledge of Giddha. Most recently placing 1st at MCB Giddha competition. Her wealth of knowledge in both fields will be a great asset in judging competitions and providing constructive feedback to our younger generation and an inspiration to all the girls doing Bhangra. This can help break any barriers there are regarding “girls should not be doing Bhangra”.

Now he wants to help teach younger generation the true essence of folk Bhangra. Most recently he judged MCB Jr. 2017. His reason behind judging in North America is to extend his experience to youth and to create awareness about the true folk Bhangra.

Varan Singh Rakhra (Seattle, WA) has been a part of the competitive Bhangra scene for the past 11 years. From dancing at over 20 competitions in all over North America and Canada to organizing various schools and fitness centers workshops, he has developed a deep understanding of the intricacies of stage performance, technical execution, creativity, and the folk element of the dance.

He was actively involved in the bhangra circuit from 2009 - 2017 competing in 15+ competitions across North America helping all three teams achieve success. His tenure with Furteelay Shokeen from 2009 - 2016 helped establish Furteelay Shokeen as one of the top teams in the U.S. From 2013 - 2015 he helped establish Raakhe Virse De, leading them to a 2nd place at PCS Chicago 2014.

Throughout his dancing career he has come across many individuals and teams who have enhanced his knowledge of Bhangra.
