Want Live Access to Competition Results? Introducing BTF Live…

2 August 2008 One Comment

Distribution of Competitions Results has been pretty basic up until now.  A handful of people are on the phone, trying to figure out what happened.  Different people are giving different results. At some point, something gets posted to a forum, true or not.  People have to visit the forum to see if something is posted yet.

BTF Live is a new service I am excited to announce that will immediately broadcast results to you via text, IM, and web-update.

Here’s how it works:

  1. Responsibilities: Before the competition, one person who will be there is identified as the “source”.  A person not at the competition will be the “poster”.
  2. Competition time: After the results are announced, the source gives the poster the placings.
  3. Broadcast: The poster uses the BTF Live account on Twitter to post the results.  Follow the BTF_Live user to receive results via text, IM, or if you visit the site online.  They will also post the results in a new topic on BTF.

What are the goals behind BTF Live?

  1. Quick/Modern Distribution of Results without a hundred phone calls and visits to BTF. (text updates to your mobile, IM, etc). We will be using the framework and membership already in place at Twitter.
  2. Accurate news (a trusted source at the competition gives the news directly to a trusted poster)

We hope you enjoy this new service! The first run for BTF Live will be the upcoming Groundshaker 2 competition on August 30th.  Please let us know if you can serve as the source for this competition.

- Saleem  (ps – i’m on twitter too)
