Bhangra Activities
« on: July 20, 2011, 12:58:13 PM »
Hey my bhangra team is helping out in a school activity and we have 15 minute rotations.
I has to be ands on and active time. Does anybody have any ideas of how to fill this time. Any cool bhangra activities or games?

I know we can teach people some steps, show them how to use props, but that won't fill 15 mins.

Thanks for the help.

This presentation that my buddy Arjun put together should be of great help: http://bhangrateamsforum.com/discuss/main-bhangra-discussion/basic-bhangra-presentation-(framework)/

That will not only go over moves, props, etc.. but also give you a glimpse of the origins/history behind things.

It's available for download at: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=NBGORGET  (You may need to re-embed the youtube videos).

*REQUEST TO MODS* -  Would it be possible to attach the presentation file in the original thread of the aforementioned topic. That way, if the link stops working, they can still download it from BTF?

If that alone doesn't use up all your time:

As far as games, I have no idea.. maybe after presenting all of this information and teaching/showing them the various moves used in modern day Bhangra, you can split everyone up into randomly selected "teams" and have a dance competition similar to "America's Best Dance Crew".. obviously giving each team time to prepare something quickly (using elements of Bhangra = bonus points).

Hope this helps,

~ Basim :)

I don't think ppt is a supported file, which is why it wasn't posted initially. Email it to saleem and me (mine's yasaswi.raparla@gmail.com). We'll figure it out

Crowd interaction + teaching them steps > 15 minutes.  Greet them, thank them for coming.  Go over each step like 4 times.  Make combinations of the steps they learned.

15 minutes is EASYYYYYY.  Gurpreet (AEG) and I did a gig at Princeton University and had to give a lesson (Call me Professor!  Ok, bad joke).  Somewhere between teaching moves, and doing combinations, and all of that-aside from me yacking away the audience's ears off-time went bo SOOOOO quickly.  You'll be fine-trust me!
Swag is for boys.  Class is for men.
