Hey Everybody! I was thinking about creating a new bhangra team but I don't really know where to start. It's a little difficult to say what exactly is happening but I just wanted to ask a few questions about college teams.1. Do you guys do tryouts? If so, how do you carryout the tryouts and what process do you go through to admit new dancers.Determine how many people you want on the team. 4n4, 6n6, 5n5? Then see how your interest compares to your goals for # of people.2. Do you accept everyone that joins your bhangra team?See #1. 3. Where and how do you advertise and create outreach for your team? (ex. website, email accounts, facebook, twitter, etc...)Create a facebook group or page, use twitter, send out a mass email to your university4. How are your practice's structured in you schedule (ex. Right after school, late in the day, one hour, etc...) and how often do you do practices? (weekends, weekdays, every other day, etc...)Depends when people are free. You won't know the best times until you discuss it with your team.5. What's the workout/ routine of your practices? (ex. Posters, formations, steps, choreography)Assign people for choreo. Do the choreo before practice (you do not want to be sitting in practice wasting time wondering what move to do next). Ask your team to see how they learn best, its not the same for everyone. If you are starting the team, the ability of you to take feedback from your team is important.6. Does your team mix your own songs, pay someone else to do it, or grab some stuff off of BTF, Youtube, etc...?If you have someone talented enough to put together a mix you like and have it be of high quality, then go for it, it will save you money. Otherwise ask one of the many talented DJ's on BTF.7. How do you introduce new people to bhangra and where do you start?Show them videos. You can explain in words all you want, but it does very little without some type of visual reference. If writing an email or facebook message, keep it short and to the point. 8. Where do you get your costumes from and how often do you get them?Search the internet. I have heard a lot of people get them from places like shopbhangra.com, bhangraavenue.com, and other sources. Thanks for your time!
I don't know much about how independent teams raise their money, hopefully someone on an independent team can chime in and offer some suggestions.

Saves you money.
Thanks for the help guys, we have gotten the ball rolling pretty well. We are going to send an audition tape soon.
