Dry Cleaning Costumes
« on: January 14, 2012, 02:12:05 PM »
Do you guys know if it safe to dry clean bhangra outfits? I think the ones I have are polyester or satin crepe material. From what I have heard, the kurta and chadras can be, but I'm really skeptical about the paghs and the vests.

We aren't the ones dry cleaning these either, it's a group of people who rented the costumes from us and are going to dry clean them for us as well. We gave them some salvar kameezs for the girls too. Those are probably cotton.

Please let me know what you guys think ASAP. (I have never dry cleaned anything in my life, so I'm pretty clueless on this one.)
Yeah... I bhangra. :D

I think dry-cleaning is really the only way to go.  Otherwise, you risk damaging the material by washing it yourself.  I had my kurta, chadra, and vest dry-cleaned and they all came out really nice.  Not sure about the pagg, but I think it should be fine.  Depending on the material for your paggs, you may even be able to wash them yourselves (handwash, or in a machine).  It would probably be a hassle though to wash all of them.

I've put them (the kurtas and paghs) in the washer and dryer before, but only on delicate settings and they seemed to have come out nice. It's primarily the vests and chadras I'm worried about.
Yeah... I bhangra. :D

I've had entire bhangra outfits (including pagg) dry cleaned without any problems.

I agree with Harjit, it's probably the safest way to go without damaging the materials.

Hope that helps,
