take out the rivets or screws and replace them with socket head cap screwshttp://www.mcmaster.com/#socket-head-cap-screws/=bd50zouse washers with the screws and nutsfor nuts use nylon insert hex nutshttp://www.mcmaster.com/#nylon-insert-hex-nuts/=bd51petighten as much as you want, these nuts will never loosen or fall off.thats how i make my saps :-)

So the holes for the screws became too big and tightening couldn't really fix that (you endup pseudo-clamping the wood together with tight screw/bolt to compensate...)
