Increase Stamina/Strength?
« on: January 29, 2012, 02:49:51 PM »
I noticed  a lot of people dancing usually lose their stamina and energy around the middle parts of their dances, if their dances are 8 mins long. For me, it's tough even trying to keep the energy pumped up for at least 2 minutes of intense dancing.

Any tips on a routine on how to increase stamina and energy? (Other than taking like mad loads of sugar. )
Yeah... I bhangra. :D

As far as increasing strength and stamina, here is a good alternative to taking mad loads of sugar:

i recently started taking creatine, it's helped with stamina when it comes to weight lifting and cardio, i'm gonna try l-arginine l-citrulline once i get some. try taking some of this stuff while doing cardio training, running 7-8mph for 10 minutes should be equivalent to doing a 7 minute bhangra set.

a lot of bold inferno rubys and solid ocean sapphires should totally do the trick.

1. Wall sits/Air Alert
2. More full energy(all out) run thrus.
3. Eat better food
4. Devote a part of every practice to stretching...also do it between run-thrus where you do it with full energy
5. Use weights for your arms while dancing(smaller weights)
6. Most important- Figure out what you want to convey in each segment stylewise and adjust your visible energy output to it(I.e. end has more than jhoomer for example)

Just a couple of small tips.

keep doing you set over and over and over. and when you mentally dead and shot...run it 4 more times

no amount of pills or running will every be perfect. My experience running does not work out the same muscles that you use for bhangra...I know experienced runners that die after one run through.

agreed, the best thing you can do for your performance at a competition is to just do your set repeatedly. that will not only increase your stamina, but it will make you better at performing that set overall. your muscle memory for those movements improve, etc, and you are conditioning the tendons/ligaments in your knees, hips, and ankles, which end up being fatiguing quickly in people who don't do enough bhangra (because their body is used to different forms of stress).

regardless, staying fit and doing stuff like running/sprinting, weight training, p90x insanity, etc, helps a ton as well

Wrist weights and ankle weights.

Also P90X. I've never been in better shape in my life then I was after doing that for two months. 8 minute routines are kind of small potatoes when you've been doing that for a while.

I agree, best way to build stamina is to do your routine full out over and over again.
