Can someone do a nice translation the video? we'll add the vid to the list of tutorials and have the translation so it's useful. Great find bro!

Yes, that would be awesome!

I asked Gurnak, the king of translations on BTF to possibly help with this. Hopefully he comes through for us.

if I had time, I'd re-edit the video with subtitles, but I don't right now.

If no one does anything by the time I free up, I'll do it. :)

that'd be even better! You could also download the video, reupload and add captions? I just don't have time and my punjabi comprehension is not that great, I really think this is a good opportunity and a solid translation is worth the wait. If you write it out I can do the upload myself

Hi all, im really sorry, im not so savvy with the whole upload/reload/caption youtube thing - so if swi you would be happy to do so... below is the rough translation, parts were abit difficult to understand, but overall it roughly makes sense.

To make it easier I have tried to put down the timing of when he says what he says.

0.01 - "Has it started?"

0.08 - On demand from Australia, how to tie a Bhangra Front Pagh (Turban)

0.15 - To start we will start of with Pauni (layers)

0.18 - One side is starched the otherside is not starched, the starched side we will pleat like this

0.30 - This is now made like this, give that side to the person whose turban is being tied

0.38 - "Hold it from here"

0.45 - Now continue to pleat so it looks nice

0.55 - "Come on, dont let go"

1.00 - "Sit down, come a little closer"

1.07 - After that, we will take one side of the "larh" we are going to pull it forward and out

1.16 - This part we are going to keep at the front

1.21 - "Hold it from here"

1.30 - "Hold it here, dont pull it down"

1.39 - The "larh" should pass over here

1.51 - Look how this "larh" goes around, lift it and pull it around tight, open it downwards

2.00 - "Now let go"

2.05 - From here

2.08 - Over the top

2.15 - Try to keep this tidy

2.20 - "Put your finger here"

2.24 - After that from behind the second "larh"

2.44 - Over the top, you should know how to twist the larh here

2.59 - "Put your finger here"

3.05 - From the back these "larh" should be kept tight

3.24 - "Look upwards"

3.41 - This "larh" will come over and cover all three previous "larhs"

3.51 - The last "larh" will do the last 4

4.04 - From under here (cant understand too much mumbling!)

4.20 - From here we twist inwards

4.30 - Here put two fingers in

4.40 - Press the "larh" downwards

4.58 - Make some space for where we will insert the "turla"

5.02 - Now to make the "turla"

5.15 - Like this, make fine overlaps, keep it tight

5.40 - Now the "turla" is ready

5.42 - Now get the setting right

5.49 - Gather together any of the loose material

5.52 - If too much starch just shake it, that will soften the starch

6.00 - Hold like this, push in with your thumb

6.12 - Hold from here, and insert here

6.20 - Press in here tight so the "turla" stands up

6.25 - Now the setting is done

6.28 - After this, if our bhangra brother has hair, then set the hair behind the turla

6.39 - Otherwise roll this part of the pagg and put here

6.47 - "Hold this here"

6.54 - The first "larh" we will use to cover everything

7.10 - From here this is the first "larh" which we will pull and this will make the pagh tight

7.20 - Now lets set the "turla"

7.40 - From here, this side, start to stretch and tuck the edge in

7.50 - And now to make the shape

8.02 - Now pull and tuck this side in

8.50 - Now this "larh" we roll under and tuck in

9.11 - "Stand up"

9.14 - This is a front pagh, 4 "larh" and a front "turla", this is the setting from the back, you can see the layers, it should be kept neat. Because there it was understarched the turla is not perfect, but we have tried our best

9.50 - This could look like a flower.

Gurnak, you're the best man! Thanks for pulling through on this.

Swi, if you can, please upload it to the BTF youtube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/BhangraTeamsForum). Saleem might have the login information for that.

I suggest downloading the entire video, adding captions, then re-uploading it to the BTF youtube account (that way we can retain a copy & have control over it being removed from Youtube). When adding captions if you could please give credit to Gurnak, that would be a wonderful gesture.

Thanks,

~ Basim :)

Thanks gurnak! I'll see about getting it uploaded to the BTF account, there are a couple of great vids so maybe we could put them all up and just reference the original video

you shouldn't need to pin the turla, thats what the pati is for.

The pins are there for support/emergencies, you don't pin to keep the turla down but rather to keep it from popping out if something random happens on stage. A pagh that flops a bit if you move is better than a turla on your face or something. Ideally it shouldn't come out but when you're throwing khunde and stuntin etc, things happen

yah, the pins should never be used to keep the turla in or what is keeping the pagh together. I personally just like putting the pins in for piece of mind. i guess id rather put the pins in and sacrifice the satisfaction of tying paghs without pins than have a pagh mishap on stage (that a pin could have prevented).  plus a lot of people who are watching instructional videos are going to new to tying front turlas and will need that extra security. a lot of teams on the circuit use pins in their paghs and alot of them do it poorly. so if youre gonna do it might as well try to do it inconspicuously
