New Team- Names of dance moves
« on: January 29, 2012, 10:55:33 PM »

Hey Everyone!
So I'm really excited to finally be an official member of the forum (something I should've done a while ago). I used to dance on a fusion team at University of Delaware, DE Kamaal, but being Punjabi I had always dreamed about being on a Bhangra team, so I decided to start one last fall and we started "Mele Mitraan De (MMD)" as a co-ed team. This year, we're going all-girls!

Facing the challenge of having mostly new members, majority of whom are non-punjabi and have never danced bhangra, we have to teach things from scratch. Those of us who do know Bhangra were never really taught the names for things, so we're trying to keep a consistency when we ourselves teach them and for our benefit prove that we know what we're talking about.

SO MY QUESTION IS: Is there any thread (tried searching) that gives kind of a background/lists the actual names of bhangra moves, e.g. phumniyan, faslan..there are awesome youtube vids up done by Parminder Singh which gives the names of the moves...but I was wondering if there was any other resource that gave names and description since those vids don't cover quite everything.

I really appreciate everyone's help! Thanks!
