i use staflo, and it works great for me, even those darn shiny paags
just soak it like no tomorrow, and then a couple days later soak it again
dont drench it much, just let it be

sta flo isnt bad stuff but experiment with the rice method
BIMMER, BENZ OR BHANGRA?!

You could also use StaFlo and mix in some (maybe 1-2 hefty tablespoons) of rice-flour into it. I'd say mix the rice-flour with a tad bit of warm water before you add it to the StaFlo so as to avoid clumping in the mixture.

how long is the turla? You don't need it to be rock hard, if you're finding turlas to be floppy you could be starching too much (in terms of length)

That's probably way more than necessary. Try reducing it to 10 inches and you'll find the turla will flop a lot less and will be much more sturdy. The "rice" method is called making 'maava' and has been tackled many times on the forum. Just search "starch" "maava/mava" and "pagh turla" and you'll get a lot of threads. Here are two decent threads:

after you tuck just the turla in make sure you have enough kapda at the end to make a decent enough "jooda" shape that will hold the turla from falling backwards

hey guys Ive starched paghs with Sta Flo but the turlas are not coming out as strong as i want them to be.
any suggestions on other ways to starch them?

If the paggs that you have are the "shinny looking ones" then you're outa a luck! anything not desi would not work on em! the only thing that seems to work on those shinny looking soft material paggs  is the "rice flour"

We were at a competition abt a week ago and we were having the same problem. We thought sta-flow would work or even those spray starch thingys. lol we starched our paggs like 3 4 times, but NOOOO luck! those things are waste of MONEY for the paggs that are SHINNY! If you have the simple paggs, then those things are def. the easy way out!

so anyways, if your paggs are the shinny ones then you gotta get with the desi METHOD asap! if not, then any starch would work! Have you tried "stify" from Micheals? That thing is mad good! lol no joke! ;)

sta-flo works well for us, and we have the shiny ones. I think a lot of teams use sta flo even with the shiny ones, not sure why yours are not working.

like swi said, maybe you should starch less. and also what tends to help from keeping the turla from flopping too much is pinning the turla to the extra cloth you bunch up right behind it. Once you have shaped the turla to how you want, put the pin in, and it should hold throughout the performance.
