Planning new acid pro tutorials by swizzee
« on: July 15, 2011, 02:23:06 PM »
Hey guys,

I've already started work on a brand new set of tutorials dealing with mixing, and in particular using acid pro to do so. My last tutorials were made two years ago in one shot and were not planned at all, somethin to just get info out there.

I am much more focused on this as a project this time because the number of emails/messages with the same questions is getting to be a lot and itd be nice to have something to show new people.

I have roughly 5 7-8 min videos finished already. I'm hoping to have 10 videos from me to start and then guest videos from others that we can post as time goes on that deal with specifics. Like I've covered eq in a very comprehensive way already, but someone can do a really in-depth compression tutorial, explaining how to work the entire soundstage etc.

What I'm looking for now are requests for things to put into the videos. If your new, what can't you get right? If you are experienced ten tell me what your biggest hurdles were, whatdid you wish someone told you?

The videos will assume no knowledge of mixing/music and will not only talk about the concepts, but also show how i do it in acid. As such, it's going to be kind of specific to my style (I snap everything, use the fx automation heavily rather than use duplicated tracks etc etc). But like I've said I've thought about the best way for a beginner to start and I think I found a good, balanced approach that makes things cleaner and easier to show and learn ( and may be different than what you do!)

So let me know what you'd like and I'll do my best to incorporate. If you'd be down to do a guest tutorial, let me know as well (and which topics you can do). Don't flake though, only put your name down if your serious and  willing to give me final cut Billy Walsh style!

What type of stuff were you planning to cover in the fl studio tutorials?  I'm just asking because there are literally thousands of fl tutorials all over youtube and other sites.  There aren't many in depth tutorials for sony acid so i think those might be very helpful.

most tutorials for fl cover original production techniques. i was gonna cover mainly mixing techniques for bhangra mixes specifically. but I do agree, Acid tutorials are much needed since that's the tool most mixers use.

Great finally bro..

Here some things I would like to know if you get time to include in those videos..

EQ or Using Wavehammer (Had some idea from GSingh but not really comfortable with it yet)
Sony Effects(Specially how to boost up the bass in the track)
And last thing sometimes beat mapping a track where starting beat is all up in down in waves and hard know where to start.

Thanks bro.

i'd like to also add a few things that i would super appreciate if you went over (if you're not already done)
tips on mixing specific to bhangra. like what beats go with what, how to match dhol beats, etc.
sampling other tracks, isolating vocals and incorporating them properly
how to find loops and sounds and how to build a good sample base (i've noticed that that has a lot to do with being a good mixer)
mixing tracks that have wildly varying tempo segments (and working with different tempos throughout one project in general) because i've had problems with beatmapper and putting, for example, slow-tempo breakdowns in a song

you're amazing and i totally watched all your tutorials like 6 times each.

Can't wait for the vids Swi.

I would also like to add a few things:
-Pitch Shifting
-Adding Bass to a mix (Bass samples, continuous bass)
-Also if you go over how to use a drumkit properly (kicks, snares, etc.)

Thanks for the vids Swi, cause I remember your older vids helped out a lot when I started off.

Great news! As people have said, it would be great if you could cover equalisation!
Many thanks Swi.
