they are all equally good it depends on your preference though... oldschool guys like ustads will always have a dhol that is roped on both sides since they normally tune the treble according to a certain note for the session, but hooks on both sides is also a good idea its a bit more convenient than having to spend half an hour roping the bass or treble when it has to be replaced, but the most common which is dagga rope and treble hooked is good aswell and as far as roping for dagga roped and treble hooked goes, I think dhols that are roped dagga and have to be tightened away from dagga look very unprofessional and are most likely crap... when I see a dhol like that I steer clear, but tightening away from treble towards dagga looks more professional and closer to the traditional method but other than that all are equally good and it depends on the quality of the wood and the quality of the goat skin if you are concerned about sound quality or and a deep bass. normally a dhol that is really good quality taahli wood will most likely have alot of sustain and will be crazy loud ( only someone who has a quality dhol would know what I mean when they get a brand new taahli dhol) the sustain lasts for 3-4 seconds and will literally make you deff if you are playing in your house

According to Ustad Lal Singh Bhatti, there's no difference on a dhol with nuts/bolts on a side that has plastic. You should keep goat skin sides roped.

I have an amb dhol with nuts/bolts on both sides & it sounds good. I've had it for about 2 years & I've only tuned it once since I got it. It sounded really good til I ripped my skin on dagga side.

I also have a kali taali dhol with roped dagga side and nuts/bolts on tilli side. This is the kind Ustadji recommended that I get. He said when you get older and don't play very much, you can get both sides roped for show.
Both sides of my dhol have goat skin... and it's brand new so I can't really say much about this one yet.

its definitely all personal preference. No particular way is any better than the other. I personally think bolts on the dagga side require a bit more maintenance.

My personal preference is roped dagga, bolted tilli, and ropes tightened towards the dagga side.

I always get my dhols desi (no nuts either side) or nuts on the treble and roped bass but ive heard some heavyy bolted basses.  I like the fact that u can easily adjust the treble if its roped and you can tune it easilly to produce accents. but then the bass needs more maintence.

To be honest it depends on what you like.

I personally like using my Tilli roped, dugga bolted dhol for when I play at bhangra gigs, or bharaats and stuff because I get that Khulla (open) sound.(which you can also get from a bolted tilli but I like it like that). But then for stage shows, I always use both sides bolted because 1.when you need to surr your dhol, sometimes you cant surr your dhol that high with rope.  2. you can go longer with not having to tune ur tilli side on bolts then with rope, 3. If your playing on stage and you rip one of your skins, you can easily replace it with bolts.

Hope that helped.

For me I like the bass side roped because you get more control to tune it as opposed to nuts.

Treble however I prefer with nuts, easy tuning, and easy to replace as it is more likely to rip as opposed to your bass. (from my experience)
