Many many teams don't have an obvious red jori, or they use a different color as their captain/first jori. E.G. panj, vcu, aeg, etc etc

Maybe you should ask yourself why you care so much? It just seems you want to do it and are hearing you can't and are getting worked up over it. Instead of worrying about why or can/cannot maybe think about should/should not.

Lot's of teams do side turla at gigs and they look fine. I've seen a few vids of more traditional teams doing it at comps way back in the day. It's all personal preference and that's the point...don't let anyone tell you you can't. If it'll make you smile on stage then convince your team to do it and go for it.

hahaha i'm not worried abt anything yaar, it's just people be arguing over what color to wear during comps so thats why i be telling em, it shouldn't matter!

but they never understand that. lol

N' personally, i'M not good enough to be the main jorri just yet (still learning n' trying to get better)

not everything in the punjabi culture has insanely deep meanings, don't stress about such small things! there is no bhangra police to take you away if you wear a side turla at a competition, it just shows that you didn't put as much effort and preparation into the paggans as you could have..

side turla is easier to tie and it doesn't take long to learn how to tie compared to front turla and since its a competition to see who is the best and most skilled, front turla seems more appropriate but both could technically work.. and front turla just looks better when your dancing, side looks better if your instrumentalist and not moving around much

as for the colours, I personally think its just a rank thing.. psychologically it makes sense.. gives all the dancers somthin to look up to.. a goal to strive for, making red jori is like making captain of the team kind of thing, but as for why RED and not any other colour, in most cultures red symbolizes strong emotions and feelings and that kind of meaning would be best paired with dancers with similar attributes, such as tremendous energy, clean dancing and power.

N' abt the side turle wali pagg. It's jus people don't give much respect to side turle wali paggs...they think it's not good enough! No offense to front turle wali pagg! I'm glad that i have the talent to tie both the front n' side turle wali pagg!

noo its because the red ranger(power rangers reffrence) is always at the front(except in japan i think)
its the favourite colour of young boys ages 5-12 and most people start bhangra at that age right?

Correct me if I'm wrong on this.. But when I see performances from NJ or even SGPD I don't really see a main jori.. everyone is so damn good and the formations are such that all the dancers keep on rotating throughout the stage [like front and back of the stage]

It's all about aesthetics. I'm sorry if you were looking for a cultural reasoning for the observation or trying to poke at a community misconception on the "laws of bhangra".

Front turla looks much better than side. And PLENTY of teams have non-red/pink first jodis (ie: Yellow is first for VCU, not Pink). (And honestly, I don't even believe in the concept of a first jodi. It's just silly.) Why don't teams wear longer vests anymore? Why do most teams no longer wear belts? Why don't dancers use rumaals? Because it doesn't look good.

Side turla is not called a side turla, its called a Furrla..

I may be wrong, but thats how the tradition is, thats how they tied their pagga, for other Naachs like malwai gidha, jhummar, dhola, mahiya, jindua, etc they tied furrle and for bhangra they tied turle...

Red is pretty obvious, stands out the most, i've seen yellow first jordis, orange first jordis no tension..take it easy

Fact: The wavelength of red is most catching to the human eye. Hence the Red in police lights, Red on stop signs, Red on stop lights, red cars get more tickets, blah blah.

Applied to bhangra: If you want to look your best, you want people to be looking at people who perform the best, particularly when there is a discrepancy amongst talent. Thus your BEST DANCERS WEAR RED. does it HAVE to be that way? no lol, and a million teams have shown that. I've seen Orange, Yellow, Blue, Pink, almost ANY color as first jorhi.

Fact: Bulls are COLORBLIND! They attack the action of the cape. They (bull fighter bulls) are pushed into aggression, including being stabbed proded and poked prior to a bullfight. Then someones waving a giant cape at them, naturally they get defensive.
