Sangam, UNC Chapel Hill's South Asian Awareness Organization, cordially invites you to attend the Southeast's premier intercollegiate dance competition, Aaj Ka Dhamaka (AKD)!

Aaj Ka Dhamaka 2009 will be held on November 7th, at Memorial Hall, located on UNC's campus in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This unforgettable dance competition showcases the talent of Raas, Bhangra, and South Asian Fusion dance teams from across the United States, attracting an audience of over one thousand people each year. We are very excited to bring the show back to Carolina's campus this year and hope that you will join us for this memorable celebration of South Asian culture!

All proceeds from Aaj Ka Dhamaka will directly benefit the Mahatma Gandhi Fellowship (MGF), established in 1998 by a group of UNC Sangam students. The prestigious Mahatma Gandhi Fellowship awards two Caolina students up to $3000 each to implement a service project that benefits the South Asian community at home or abroad. Since the Fellowship's foundation, there have been twenty-three recipients, all UNC students, who have received funding to conduct service projects addressing South Asian issues. Through Aaj Ka Dhamaka, we hope not only to continue to support these projects but also to reach a $125,000 endowment to make MGF self-sustainable in the future.

Given that Aaj Ka Dhamaka is the primary for MGF, the success of MGF would not have been possible without those of you who participated in or supported past AKD competitions. With your continued support, we strongly believe we can make momentous progress twoards reaching the MGF endowment and make this year's Aaj Ka Dhamaka the most successful yet! So brace yourselves for one of the most anticipated shows of the year and make sure you buy your tickets before we sell out!

I think VCU is coming now that JJ isn't doing All Stars.

Either way we're really excited to compete with VCU, Wolfpack bhangra, and all the other great teams coming. AKD is an awesome competition every year. Can't wait to meet everyone.
