the way i think about it is you move the ends in a figure 8...? you're not actually spinning the chimta around your wrist, only manipulating your wrist motion. dunno if that helps but maybe watch some of those gatka videos on slow mo?

It's mostly a wrist movement, your arm esp. from the elbow up should be pretty firm.

One of the guys from Gajjde Garboo (Lavesh maybe?) in the red and yellow jori from Pioneer Bhangra does it best, really really fast maybe HE can give you a few tips =)

just start slowly and work on the spin then add speed to it..u can also get a smaller chimtah if ur arms aren't that long so it doesn't hit your body..

ohhh! i just learned recently...

if you've ever done raas, most raas teams spin their dandiya in a certain way, some gujjus call it "the fake stage way" that usually is used to avoid dandiyas dropping

well if you do that but then like govind said use your wrists to make a figure 8, it usually works, the hardest part is making sure especially if your broad shouldered that the ends dont hit your sides

haha, thanks BHARFI :) (oh no i didnt....o yes, i just did mwahahha)....i dont think im an expert or nethin, but yea, like govind said, just make a figure 8 wit ur wrist...hold the chimta in the middle, n just keep makin a figure 8 as fast as u can...the only problem is, u CANNOT be afraid of a little pain or blood lol....after pioneer, someone was like "DAMN wat happened to ur hand", cause it was all cut up from the chimta so it was bleedin, but wen ur on stage, u dont even notice cause ur just pumped bout the routine....however, to avoid the carnage, u can take a small peice of cloth like a rumaal (hankerchief) and wrap that around the part that you hold, and then do the figure 8...i find its a little harder to go as fast, but it will help keep ur hands in one piece lol

I kind of stand at an angle to avoid getting hit with things that I'm spinning.  And thanks Lavesh I will think of a witty comeback for you in a few days :P

Yea i def keep my arm straight and as far from my face to prevent hitting myself.  and its all in wrist.  like said before move it in a number 8 motion.
start out slow and get comfortable and then up youre speed.

Hey man, can you elaborate a little further about that rumaal technique? I've tried a bunch of different things (duct tape, band aids etc.) but they either come off on stage or get stuck to the chimta. It's a hassle to have to worry about blood on stage, and who am I kidding, I'm not looking to lose my hand  :)
