From what I remember, wasn't Allstars comprised of people accepted and/or applied to Dhamaka last year but didn't go? Now those that didn't go to Allstars are going to Dhamaka?

It's great you have teams available but the application process is not transparent man. Only a side note on the Allstars posts says "waitlist available" Not enticing to a team to apply, and now that they didn't in the fall semester when perhaps they weren't ready they have to be waitlisted again for Dhamaka in the spring.

What you should do in future is say teams that applied need not apply again, only express interest. That way it seems like everyone has a fair shot at acceptance. This will also help with fewer dropouts

I think this is a mad good idea

and to who ever doesnt like the idea of dancing twice in one night

CMON your acting like AFTER performing we all dont go to the afterparty and dance even harder....lol lets be realistic
Anil...I say go with it

Although i do think u should do something like

5 bhangra teams, 5 fusion teams

a 1st 2nd and 3rd place for both categories and JUST the 1st place teams compete for an overall winner
its not necessary to give crazy cash prizes since 7 cash prices could be expensive, but yeah

I Dont know if this was already mentioned i didnt bother to read through 4 pages of posts to see if it was, if it was, disregard this post

But are we not missing the point of view of the audience? They get to see two routines twice? The surprises of the routine is definitely lost in the second run-through. Also, some teams may need to re-tie paghs and re-tie chaadre to get ready again. For the judges, what if the first performance is better than the second one? The mere memory of the first performance may alter judging the second one in order to determine overall winner. I'm really not sure the idea will be a hit with the parties involved - teams, judges and audience.

Another idea is that you give a new random mix of bhangra and hiphop to all the teams the night before the competition. Keep it secret until then. Teams can choreograph a routine to it. The overall winners need to battle it out based on that new mix. It would truly test a team's ability to choreograph in a short amount of time as well as practice. Choreographing to the competition mix is another decision the teams may need to mix, depending whether they think they're gonna win..etc. The mix would need to be a good combination of hiphop and bhangra (we've seen teams do bhangra to hiphop) and this would allow judges a better chance to compare the two (a better chance, not that comparing fusion and bhangra is ever a good idea).

You are insane lol. Teams would just end up staying up all night. And you know as well as I do the countless weeks it takes to develop a full solid routine...

I'd say stick to a 6:30 minute routine and have the final faceoff be a free-form mela segment of 45s long...that they have 10 minutes to prepare. Obvi they should come with ideas before hand in case they get to that part but they won't know what props they have to work with and what dj'd mela mix they'd be dancing to..
Bhangra is NOT a hobby...it is a LIFESTYLE

Well, the mix shouldn't be 6 minutes long. More like just 2 minutes. I remember at Miami Mayhem's mixer (raas competition), they had us choreograph a 40 second segment to a Britney spears song and they gave us 10 minutes. It was fun, wacky but we still got some type of dance ready. (And we did win that mixer competition and got $100 for booze money lol) (Funny story - Most of the raas teams tried choreographing bhangra to it. I just stuck with doing hiphop lol) The dance isnt expected to be flawless. It truly is a test of a team's dedication and ability to pick up choreography and practice in the a short amount of time. As you know, as you dance for multiple years, there are always steps and formations that you can think of on the fly. This is in the middle of a impromptu dance off and a fully choreographed routine.

Remember Kapil - the final dance off is only between one bhangra team and one fusion team. Only two teams will actually do the second routine. The mela segment doesnt work for fusion teams. It should be somewhat fair to both genres and give a better medium to compare the two. (Judges will have an easier time judging when the mix is the same. As I said, fusion and bhangra are not comparable, but this is just an idea)
