East Side Alliance's New Year Resolution: Create a Blog
« on: January 01, 2012, 11:59:27 PM »
Happy New Year Everyone!

As 12 girls coming from various teams, we bring together different styles, backgrounds and experiences. Just within our team itself we have discussed so many different issues, shared so many stories, and keep talking about the direction we feel female Bhangra dancers should take next. In order to express, share, and invite new views, East Side Alliance (ESA) has started up blog!

Our blog will feature a variety of posts including clips from our practices, vlogs with the teammates and our fellow Bhangra friends, interviews, debates, and more! We'd love if everyone could support us in our efforts to do something new and fun and join in on this experience with ESA.

Here is the link to our blog: http://esidealliance.tumblr.com

Make sure to check out our posts and comment! Our first few posts include: Who is ESA? Why a Blog? and a special post from ESA member [Mariam] - How Did ESA Form?

Thanks to everyone who has shown ESA so much love and support!

"We tried to keep the collaboration a secret for as long as possible but with 12 girls on one team, the news was bound to spread."

Haha, this is great.

I think your purpose is definitely relevant and can be of benefit to the bhangra community.  Looking forward to seeing more of your blog.

def think this a cool idea and initiative, but I think when you're trying to extend the blog past ESA and talk about the movemoent and growth of girls on the circuit, you have to change the name of the blog. Prior to an individual conversation, I thought the blog was just for the ESA girls and didn't realize its potential.

This is definitely going to be a fun blog and idea, and Dheerja/Neha will make this worth looking at. I just think you can give it a more inclusive name that will get all the girls on the circuit interested :)

Hi Bagmi! :) Come back to the East Coast please and shout out to Cali Bhangra District!

Just to clarify a little bit, (Dheerja feel free to chime in), the intention of this blog as mentioned in our post "Why A Blog?" is to do a variety of things but mainly:

1. ESA -  This blog is definitely an avenue through which we can document ESA's journey as a team and as individuals while also giving everyone an inside look into what and why we're doing this.

2. Future - We hope that the ESA blog can kick start a larger discussion about females in Bhangra that we hope to continue even after VPD. Whether it continues through this blog or another one, we want to keep this avenue of communication going. Despite being an ESA focused blog for the most part, we're trying our best to diversify our posts by bringing in the thoughts and opinions of other female and male dancers in the circuit within the framework of our journey for now. Stay tuned for more posts from us and send us any ideas or potential posts to esidealliance@gmail.com!

3. Outreach - Before we can have a national or international discussion about pertinent issues to female dancers and more, we felt like we needed to first take a small step in that direction. Initiating a discussion through our ESA blog for now gives us an opportunity to lay a foundation for the future. Most importantly, through interviews, vlogs, guest posts, and more, we can highlight other female dancers, teams, etc. that we feel are a part of a greater female bhangra network and collaboration which extends past ESA!

So in short - yes we're focused on ESA through this blog but we're trying to extend it past that only a little for right now and post-ESA or VPD grow the idea more (different name, new blog, etc.)! Hopefully, this as well as our upcoming blog posts will begin to clarify the direction we're trying to take. Also, we're always open to feedback, suggestions and questions so we really appreciate this and please keep it coming! :)
