AVAP is an independently run comp (initially created by 2 UVA students) which has been held in Richmond for the past couple years, not a VCU sponsored event. Because some members of VCU's team are/were on the AVAP committee, VCU has not competed in it for the past 2 years. I'm pretty sure at least no current dancers on VCU are helping organize this comp, so their bid shouldn't be called into question. Idk why the organizers wish to remain hidden for now (or at least that's what it seems like), but maybe it's because they don't want any of their team affiliations to interfere with the bids, or they don't want other people to question their selections based on their affiliations. In any case, the organizers obviously know what they're doing, or at least have the integrity to know what a competition like this will mean, so they should be able to get rid of any bias in team selection or judging.
