So, what is your most favorite performance? Also, what's your particular favorite set to a particular song?

Favorite Performance:
- SGPD @ AVAP 2008
- Punjabi Soormay @ Bruin 2008 (The tribute has to be the best way for a way for a team to retire. Props)

Favorite Choreo to a Song:
- Hawawaan done by Ashqe Sohniya @ Bhangra Fusion 07
- Rivalwar done by SGPD @ AVAP 2008 (their mix is so sick)

Also, I really like Anakh Punjab Di's set to Sat Sri Akaal but I can't decide if their's was my favorite though.

Harman, I didn't know you were at the world cup bhangra comp!  What was it like?  How does it compare to comps over here?  Give us details!

arjun the comp itself was crazy.....it was actually a 3 day event where the first two days had performances of all diff dances like malwa bhangra, giddha, summy, etc. Day three was the actual comp but due to rain the comp was delayed 2 hrs and dat sucked ass. The mc's like at all comps tried to be funny but were wack. Ummmm pammi bai was a judge and that was crazy i met the man, shook his hand, then complimented his mucha. They had an award ceremony for certain individuals i wasnt sure exactly who they were but they were quite a few of them. Unfortunatly i dont understand punjabi that well so i couldnt comprehend everything. Other then that it was the performances, which were sick. 3 competing teams and 2 exibitions. THe exhibition teams were PAU and GGN and they did a kick ass job. The three competing teams were Rooh Punjab De, Kohinoor Folk Academy, and Folk waves from australia. Folk waves and Kohinoor both brought ok routines but nothing comparable to pau ggn or rpd. When rpd came on all you could hear was the crowd goin nuts. From the moment pappi gill began to warm up  to when one of the dancers said a sher the noise level was crazy. Thats one thing i have to say bout indian comps is that the crowd is so in to the performance. they start cheering you on even thought they dont know you. Rpd did their set and the crowd gave them a standing ovation. I would love to post the performance but i was told not 2. It was just an experience watching the teams  on live dhol and boliyan. Wish i wouldve been able 2 stay and talk 2 all the teams but not time didnt permit it. But still such a great experience.

@Harman and Havish,

I attended as well...actually met Harman there which was a trip.

The first day of the comp was actually a seminar where academics delivered papers that basically shit all over the ways that the NA bhangra scene thinks of 'folk' and 'bhangra' today, but ignorance is bliss ;)
THat night (I think) malkit singh came to the organizers house and I had the chance to go and meet with him. he was really nice and laid back.

Second day had INSANE FOLK DANCES from around Punjab, a trope did Luddi. Just luddi. Their outfits were sick, like plaid kurthey with pagga with double side turley. THey had a lok saaz w punjab police, and the nursing girls from PGI did Dandaas, which is a punjabi dance that involves sticks, but its not really like raas...I think its from peshawar

Last day was the comp, which was epic. Agree with Harman on point. one thing that sucked though was that P Gill lost his voice in the middle of it. And he kept going. Felt like at any point his throat was going to tear in two he had so much passion. Speaking of comp, the audience came when the bhangra started, and left the minute it was over. Seems like nobody gave a shit about the placings. These two dhol masters who came that everyone gave respect to (dunno who they were) came on stage and pleaded with the crowd and participants to stop dacing so quickly, to stop dancing to music, and what an abomination it was for women to dance. I lol'ed. Also there were like 4 women at the comp. I lol'ed some more.

Also the people who make those cool ass punjabi shirts we wear (1469) were there. Really cool down to earth people who had some interesting views on how their products are consumed in the diaspora.

Good times.
