Information about Competitions in March or April 2010.
« on: November 08, 2009, 12:16:17 PM »
Hi.. Actually I need some information about Bhangra competitions in North America that will be held in March or April 2010, because we are planning to come to N.A. to perform, if there is no problem in the Visa process. And yes, will be highly thankful if I get some useful links to make the Visa process easier.

Hope to listen soon from u guys.. Cheers..

Regards,
Varunjit Singh.

make SURE you consider the judging criteria before you applying. i have this good feeling you guys might be leaning more on the traditional side, so make sure that the competition you apply to actually favors/considers that (just a general note. i didn't want to call any competitions out).

AVAP isn't happening this year!!

DDA (February 6th I believe) is also a good comp for y'all to come to, it's in Cupertino, CA (close to San Francisco) and it's pretty traditional as well! And Pioneer Bhangra too is in the Bay Area as well!

Yeah, it's rigged because Dholaholic's team didn't place! Know the facts before you open your little mouth kid.

alright so this thread is about a fellow who is asking advice about getting Visas and competitions in the time he specified. Not to start beef about some competition that someone thinks is rigged. Settle your stuff elsewhere. Thanks......Lets do our best to try and help varunjit so that we can have a once in a lifetime (for most of us) opportunity to see an elite team from punjab compete with teams here in North America. It will be a pleasant treat for all of us.

Could Elite 8 Bhangra Invitational Bhangra extend an invite for an "India Sector"?  Its the end of february...and it would just blow the roof off of the competition if they came.

Also...they could apply to Blowout and just pretty much take the money(you guys are a collegiate team, and if that is the same rubric as last year, im pretty sure the only place you would lose points is for not being co-ed, and thats about it)

I really hope this can work out - if we on BTF pool our resources/efforts we can make this happen and yes, it will be an epic/rare performance. Also something that would be helpful to Varunjit is contact names/emails/people who organize these competitions in US/Canada. They will be more informative about visas and funding and stuff probably.

Elite 8 would be perfect showcase for this...even if they can only offer DAVIET an exhibitional spot, but then again i'm not sure if they're interested in dancing non-competitively (or, of course, if Elite 8 is down to even consider this)

Isn't E8 for music teams?

I'm not sure if this could work but, for your visa process maybe you guys should talk tot he committie or the orgniziers to what ever com you guys want to come down for, and than have them make sore sort of paper work showing that the comp is real and its the real deal and saying how you guys are comming to dance to America, also show the history of pervious years of the comp like dvd or paper work they might have done with the theather people, just something indicating that the comp is real and its not something being used to just get ur visa. Get a list of the orgnizers and what they have done in the past, who they are. You just need evidence that all i can say, for them gora to beleive u in new delhi ;)... sorry for spelling mistakes in a hurry late for class lol.. hope this helps.. and if my idea works bring me some sweets from india ok...

Not sure when VIBC is going to be this year but I would recommend talking to one of their organizers, they are hands down one of the most organized competitions I've ever seen/been a part of and very legitimate in its interactions with other companies and stuff, so I'm sure they'd be some of the most helpful people to talk to in terms of immigration issues and would help you out a lot. You can search for Mo Dhaliwal, Sukhi Ghuman on Facebook I'm not too sure what their contact information is otherwise.  Send me a private message if you're unable to find them.
Insert something really cool and profound about bhangra here.
