NYPD BHANGRA NATION REVIEW
« on: November 22, 2009, 05:27:06 PM »
After competing this past weekend at bhangra nation XIII we were very disappointed with the lack of structure and organization.
This is our review of the competition: our views about the comp are strictly about the comp only and not towards any of the teams that competed:
Firstly,
-   We were told the stage was to be 60x40 we specifically called the organizers and they confirmed this however when we came to the venue the stage was approximately 40x30... on the day of the rehearsal our team had to assemble the stage to make it the size they said it would but they did not have “blocks”. stage was carpeted and there were nails sticking out alongside it being uneven.
-   At the bhangra nation mixer we were told that a captain and the co-captain can talk to the judges and see the score sheets but after the competition and the placing the judges refused to answer any of our questions, and also they would not give us OUR own score sheets to see.
-   When we asked them what we did wrong, they said they could not hear our beginning Sher. That was due to the competitions inability to provide loud speakers. They also said that our jugni boli was not appropriate as it talked about mirza. We got this boli from a live video from india as well Rooh Punjab dee (pfdf). This was their main point in why we did not place, and again not a knock on any other teams, but another team used a day and night remix, which we explained was about drugs but they just stood there speechless. The judges also said they did not like our song selection, when we asked what songs specifically, they look dumbfounded.
-   The judges they announced at the mixer were not even attending the competition, and when we confronted Ranvir, he responded by saying, “how is it my fault”
-   We confronted the judges about how bhangra should be done, not based on gimmicks. They agreed but when we said that a team used a jack in the box, they said, “We did not see that”
-   Without a doubt in our mind, this competition was based simply on politics, and the decisions made by the judges were made before. Ranvir, this was the worst competition that has ever been held as it was held just to make you guys more money. There is a reason why no Toronto teams come to this comp and we learned the hard way, this competition, judges, was bullshit, we wasted months making a new set, to get this result.
-   Ranvir left many teams in the dark, he lied about the judges, he lied about the stage, he lied about the teams that were coming to make more ticket sales, he lied about score sheets, and he lied about the prize money
-   When we talked to ranvir he told us it wouldn’t be based on gimmicks more on the bhangra element but we had word that he told another team that they would need to emphasize gimmicks

In conclusion we know we did well and alot of other people were surprised that we didn’t place first
And we as a team believe this is a very rigged competition would not recommend to any teams it just gets worse and worse every year

NOTE: WE HAVE FINALLY RECIEVED THE SCORECARDS AND THERE IS WHITE OUT AND RUB MARKS ON THE SCORES

I hope you have aired your "dirty laundry" with the people who put BN together, prior to this post.
I am a douche.
Toronto has established itself as the Jersey Shore for Punjabis.

lol...we got the score cards, there are white outs, half missing numbers and the best one was 18/20 got changed to 8/20. our highest score was 72 and lowest 56  out of 100. We won best dressed, but still managed to only get 3/5 on costume/appearence

I am pretty sure Gurpreet Nanua (Pinka Bhaji) & Jagdish Grewal were not judging this competition at all.

What Aaron said was not intended to take any shots at NTP, he even said it at the beginning. It was to point out that the judges were shit, the overall competition was a piece of shit, and no team should consider wasting their time and money dancing at this competition ever again.

Yeah, which is why we asked what the judges were specifically looking for and when asked they were emphasizing traditionality aswell.

People stop jumping to conclusions... Aaron's post was a review about the competition and he repeatedly stated that it was not a knock on NTP or any other teams, were talking strictly about the judges and bhangra nation, they told us to emphasize traditionality and they told NTP that the bhangra man and gimmicks were a "great idea"...why you ask? Because of Nations goal which was to keep both teams from dropping out of the compeition. Once again as stated SEVERAL TIMES, we are not knocking on any other teams, we are simply informing people about the commotion that took place at one of the worst competitions ever.

When they say modern they meant dancing under music only since Nation in the past is known as a live competition, so they wanted to attract more music teams. No where in the registration package did it say we needed gimmicks or anything.
