I don't like Best Dancer Awards and let me tell you why:
Judges are human and the competition is live: we cannot rewind a youtube video. We watch the dance once, live, and must score each team as accurately as we can.
I'd rather devote 100% of my concentration and focus to reviewing the 10-15 aspects of the dance the rubric is asking me about, than specifically keeping an eye out for who is the best during this dance, Male and Female, and tracking them through the dance to make sure I'm not missing a better dancer. If you want the most accurate placings as possible, let the judges concentrate on that.
People's Choice is a gimmick but it's fun and involves the audience, so sure, why not. SMS is fine. Applause-o-meter is probably more difficult logistically to set up (equipment, software, projection, etc..). Just set up the SMS service, and
SET IT AND FORGET IT!!
