Practice Time
« on: October 20, 2009, 11:35:11 PM »
In the SGPD thread that was locked someone said SGPD practices 4 days a week for 6-7 hours a practice.

Is that normal? To me, that seems impossible for most people who are in school or have jobs...how do you guys manage that?

I know for our team 8 total hours a month is the most we could manage considering everyone's school schedule, work schedule and other stuff they are involved in.

How much do team's normally practice? What is the average practice time for teams these days?

lol stop being such a smartass of course the person was at that time didn't realize what they were typing. Maybe they meant 6-7 hours for the 4 days a week. If not then they are probably counting their gigs and everything to me thats like practice i guess lol .

Beside that good question how do teams schedule their practices?

Man life in America sucks. Not really sure what happens in Canada, but life is wayyyy too busy here. It's always cool talking with team mates about coming together and preparing something new for a future competition, at first it's all hype, and for like 2 weeks its cool and its fun and exciting, but then after a while it sucks fitting in so much time, I don't know how team captains do it, cuz they have to put in the extra effort of watching videos learning moves properly making mixes and then sets n formations, and then working individually with people.

The worst is coming to practices dead n tired cuz of busy stressful schedules n then getting yelled at for not showing enthusiasm lol.
But yeah Canadians how the hell do you do that, that's more than what some people work, I thought somewhere somebody said 5 days a week 8 hours a day, that's a 40 hour week ! People work that much !!

She said: "4 days a week and practises run from like 5-11pm 6-7 hours, hardwork taken to the next level."

So yeah..sounds like what I described it as.

Before this turns into an arguement.

We a week or 2 before the competition practices get very intense.

Prior to that we go 3 - 4 times a week, and each practice lasts about 3-4 hours. You know masala was added in everything.

The thing with us is that when we practice we chill at the same time. So it's like haning out. Sometimes we will be hanging out and then a practice just starts. Also someone mentioned doing performences, that counts as practice for sure. You can always learn something new no matter, as long as your dancing.

yea, it usually starts off by vic saying, so our next competition is (Blank) guys, i promise this time, were only gonna practice 2 times a week an each practice will be 2 hours, practice and leave thats it. little do we no that once were in, we dont leave lol...

no no i joke, seriously, practice is needed, but it also depends on how practice is runned, and i can seriously say that the way vic runs our practice is just too ill. He's a chilling guy, but when he's serious, HE'S SERIOUS. every team needs a person like that.

I can totally see that happening.  The average college kid-given that (s)he doesnt have an internship and isn't a science major, only spends probably about an average of 3-4 hours a day in class.  Imagine you have 12 people with nearly identical schedules.

When I was on a hip hop team we did something similar, and we all very similar schedules.  Everyone's classes/work/internships ended at 5PM-practice from 6-12PM... that is 12 if we were lucky.  We studied/did work when we were free during the day and weekends.  I'm an insomniac-so I just didn't sleep.
Swag is for boys.  Class is for men.

when we had socal and csun back to back we practice 2weeks almost everyday; everyday the week of socal and then everyday during the week after socal to prep some new segments for csun.  sucks getting into a comp really late.
