Question
« on: November 02, 2009, 11:36:45 AM »
So i was on here ages ago, saying how i wanted to start a bhangra team of my own for my college.

After asking numerous of desi students in my college , basically not many have an interest in bhangra  :'(

but anyway this doesnt have anything to do with my question lolz , i wanted to ask if hip hop bhangra teams can join in the same type of competitions that normally go on. or are these competitions strictly for like folk bhangra ?

i dno what hip hop bhangra is.  u mean like modern, or like pandemonium?  if u mean like pandemonium, not likely, b if you mean modern then yea.  just apply to wherever u wanna go n see if u get in.  or get folk.

if by hip hop bhangra you mean something like NYU Pandamonium, its usually not possible to compete with traditional/folk bhangra teams in a competition.

however, there is a competition called Aaj Ka Dhamaka coming up where NYU panda is going up against VCU Bhangra.  I don't know if it's a different VCU, but thats exactly what you would be looking for.  There may be more sparking up similar to that competition.  Someone correct me if im wrong though.

Hip hop bhangra would most likely fall under the Fusion category

You should not start a team until you understand what Bhangra is and what type of team you want. Panda is the basically the most fusion you can get while still being 'Bhangra-related'. If that's too folkie for you then drop the Bhangra all together and just do HFD
