why no competitions in nyc?

1. many are fixed.
2. the organizers rarely know anything about bhangra
3. too many fights
4. not enough solid local bhangra support/passion
5. expensive to put together

still, i think it's time someone got the balsl/money to throw a big competition out here.

i think that if organizers got together - truly gathered and raised a lot of money - they can successfully throw a solid bhangra competition. all of faizan's points are very true..so it would take quite a bit to make it truly successful - but eh, somebody's gota do it?

OK I'm working on it lol.  I agree with a lot of the points Faizan stated above, but mainly how EXPENSIVE it is to throw a competition in New York-especially first time competitions.  Manhattan Bhangra spent somewhere around 10 grand for the venue alone, and it's not like the organizer threw it at Carnegie Hall (where I DREAMED to throw Chak De NYC).  Also, there was no crowd.  The organizers advertised like crazy... and no one showed up.  Fastforward to Bhangra Royale, held in Queens, and-though the theater was full-I felt like I was at Wrestlemania.  It was a disaster.

You need financing man, you need tons of financing...it's hard to convince local, recession hit, skeptical businesses to give you money for a bhangra competition.  Most people don't have the corporate connections to get financing in the thousands from companies like Zee and Sahara...It has become a monopoly for the established competitions.  Plus, to really get a crowd in nyc, you need a zee bhangra type performer, which is gonna cost you a lot...bottom line, to pull off a solid ass competition, you need anywhere from 25-50 thousand dollars...(I think jazzy b charges like 20 k per show, mid level artists aren't coming in the door without like 5-10 thousand)...it's a pain in the ass...nyc needs ballers with connections to throw a REAL competition.

A similar show could be put together in a small town in jersey or upstate for like 10,000...big difference...
