Sharing Dancers -doesnt really happen in Ny. Dancers have however left their teams to dance for other teams. In the past 2 years AEG was flooded with dancers who were on university affiliated teams and graduated or felt like it was time to move on. However AEG does share dancers with DPD,SMD and NYU bhangra. So the knowledge is being spread- but just not like it is in the DC area.

And Mariam as for a VIRSA & AEG collabo? Hey you never know- Alliances are born every day ;)

+1 to Waleed and Amit about Upstate NY. I think it's rather interesting and impressive that so many dancers have come out of this area, one that is otherwise not heavily populated by Indians/Punjabis and is pretty out of the way for much of the action.

Faizan, I don't think the fall of some of the collegiate teams you listed was due to their core leaders leaving (Cornell subsisted for years as core leaders came and left) but rather due to the dramatic change in style. The rise of the DMV, coupled with the explosion of talent in Toronto, obviously signaled a large shift in the circuit. That is, these collegiate teams' style quickly became ancient and they were forced to rebuild themselves - not in terms of core nucleus of dancers, but in terms of style (much harder IMO).

Regardless, the collegiate teams are coming back as you said  :)

Agreeed 100% with Amit

something to add though...
I would really like to see Competitions in Rochester, Buffalo or Syracuse come back again. These places are perfect regions 2-3 hours away from toronto and driving distance from the tristate area. I think bringing a reliable BIG competition to this region is really going to help with the Bhangra recognition it deserves. Let me give an example:  CMU has benefitted IMMENSELY from sponsoring and having BIB and its helped to get their name out there as well as give recognition to the area that they are from. Its only been 4 years of Burg but I think the Competition has done a lot for that region in 4 years. I would love to see the same for the Upstate Western NY region as well

Very good point. Hosting Pao has been a crucial part of Cornell's ability to persist year after year. Fever sparked some big action for a few years and it's very sad to see it go. I think the reemergence of Blizzard, Fever, etc. would be a huge asset to the region.

I def think NY is a top region instead of underrated.  So many teams over the years from NY have been prominent in the circuit.  Collegiate teams like Cornell, Rochester, and Columbia began this decade hot, but later on, as there was a huge shift in style, independent teams like AEG, Virsa, and SMD popped up and took over.

As far as underrated regions, I think Pittsburgh is a perfect example.  Watching some of the Pittsburgh teams perform at Burgh, I couldn't help notice how clean and how crisp CMU and FCB were on stage.  Kinda wish cities like Chicago and Philly (no offense Drexel) would get more involved.
clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose.

Don't know why it took me so long to come to this same realization but I only did last week.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but I think the Bay Area/Sacramento takes the cake when it comes to collaboration and support of each other. I also think that the region has produced the most teams.

Definitely agree, unfortunately its been tough to have a consistent presence of Bhangra in Chicago, and hopefully we can start to provide that in the coming years. Otherwise, events like Chicago loves bhangra are a great way to raise general awareness in the area. There hasn't been much sharing of knowledge, or for that matter a great source of knowledge in this area, but hopefully with the efforts of the teams here, we can change that.

also, pittsburgh, pretty underrated, but there are some great teams out there, and I am sure all of them will be a big presence in the circuit for a while.

I feel like a start-up of more independent teams and a competition in the Chicago area (like the PCS Chicago one that hasn't been held for the last few years) will definitely help raising awareness around the area.

I agree with Michigan... Wolverine is dirrrrtyy.

And Furteelay's BAB performance this past summer was also really sick.

Dancer quality from Michigan is very high.

^+1 ... michigan has always had really talented dancers. PDDS guys are sick dancers. Jasmine and Raji Bedi from MBT were siccck for their time. ASD girls are strong dancers (mariamm !) I have to say wolverine is one of favorite co-ed teams. their dancers are nasttyyy (harnoor, balreet, jasprit, manu )
