Which dhol to buy?
« on: October 21, 2011, 09:43:37 PM »
Hey guys, I'm a newbie and I'm trying to learn dhol through youtube videos and before I even do that I need to get a good quality Dhol because I'm short in budget and I don't want to spend money over and over because I'm a student. So far I saw this dhol on ebay and I'm not sure should I buy this because I couldn't find any musical stores in Chicago where they sell Dhol so I have no choice to buy it online so could you guys please tell me if it's a good dhol. I would appreciate any suggestions or Ideas. Thanks for reading this message and here is the link http://www.ebay.com/itm/DHOL-PUNJABI-BLACK-MANGO-WOOD-DHOL-SALE-06-CE-/180720578406?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a13c92f66

Thanks
Niz

Okay, here what the seller has to say after I told him that Mango wood dhol wouldn't be that good. Here is the message:> I can send the Black plastic skin which is preferred by Dholis across the globe and also send a very good skin on the other side>  So please tell me would be okay to invest money on this dhol after reading this message? I open with any suggestions and Ideas.

Jdeol> I have contacted them and I'm waiting for them to answer and thanks for your advice.

dudhmakhna> I'm not sure if it's really a rip off since I'm a newbie but I live in Chicago in Northwest Suburbs.

Jungly_Jatt> Not more than $220. Because I'm short in budget but inside of me is killing me to get a dhol and learn because I simply love the BEAT! I know It's kind a weird but that's just me.

You can get a used taali dhol for about $200.

Id rather get that, just check it out to make sure there are no cracks... quality dhols last for many years.

That dhol is no good. My Ustaad (Bittu Ustaad) says that those kinds of dhols are just show dhols meaning they just look nice not ment for any real shows or anythnig big. Even when your learning i reccommend you get an Ustaad dhol.

Yeah these types of dhols are used by R-casters in india just to act out scenes there not meant for playing
