lol i read this and was gunna start a thread about it!
ohh and ariza is in talks with rockets so its mainly a switch from ariza to artest
lakers will be better in the defensive end but since no more ariza we wont have as many 3's
that means THE MACHINE needs to step up lol

BEG TO DIFFER!!!
This is an amazing move for the Lakers, and that sucks because I really like Artest too. Anyways, Artest had a near 40% 3 Pt percentage which was better than Ariza's 31.2%. You will have inside and outside dominance with Odom and Artest cleaning house for the lakers in the paint. Kobe will get another shot at the title for the next two years, watch. However, the Cav's are going to win the championship next year. You can't stop shaq!

Shaq just fills one of the holes in cleveland. They still don't have all the pieces together. Rashard and turkoglu/carter will still dominate the cavs at their respective positions. Lebron still needs a little more help! The lakers will miss ariza a lot. As good as artest is, he attempts a lot of shots and at low percentages on top of that. Ariza was unselfish and averaged very few shot attempts a game and close to 50 percent field goal percentage during playoffs (easily over 50 percent if you do not include the finals). If phil and kobe can keep artest's attitude and shot selection under control, then only will the lakers have major success.

Either way, none of this matters until the lakers sign odom. I had a feeling that ariza would leave because there is a lot of talent at his position, making him expendable, while odom's unique size and skills makes him an important asset and an x factor for the lakers.

Artest is a better 3 point shooter than Trev. Last year Ron shot 40 percent and those were not open looks like Trev was getting in the playoffs.

Main thing this does I think is that defensively Kobe will no longer have to spend all of his energy like he did last year on Carmelo and other big forwards and then go on the other side to score. Ron is a huge dude if anyone has seen him in real life. He defends the Lebrons, VCs and Carmelo's like no other. 2,3,4 he can defend great.

I loved Ariza but he was not worth more than the mid level and his agent was crying for more. Last year was his only real healthy season. I am not convinced he is a better 3 pt shooter for the long haul, it could have been a month long aberration. He was a perfect tri player but Ron is a superior offensive and defensive player. Things ended well for the Lakers this year but with a few bounces here and there anything could have happened in a couple of those games in the Finals and Trevor was a great intangible out there. Ron is a tough mofo and this adds a bit of hunger to the team again, often teams stand pat after winning and they get punched in the face the season after (Heat, Celtics).

cleveland has a chance cuz shaq wants to "win a ring for the king" but!! artest finally has a chance of getting a ring cuz he has kobe and his squad to take care of business.. and artest is gonna be physical then ever to make sure he brings the championship back home. itz the only best chance of getting a ring he has and he wont dissapoint so watch out shaq and lebron. cleveland shoulda tried to get turkoglu at the same time too..then they would have a real chance at the championship.

NBA salary cap is really complicated so even if Cleveland wanted Turkoglu there was no way they could have even made a substantial offer other than the mid level exception. Lakers kinda lucked out that Artest was able to sign for waaaaay less than market value.

Apparently after the lakers lost to the celtics in 2008, Ron artest found his way to the lakers locker room without any clearance. He went straight to Kobe and told him "don't worry, I'm gonna come to LA and win one for you." I like our chances this year with him taking on the tough defensive assignments so Kobe can chill out a bit. In any case Im getting NBA league pass this season fo shooo

WTF Nate to LA?? That'd be crazy haha, in Ron artest's words on sportscenter, we'd officially be "hoodified". Scary thought- Boston is heavily recruiting Rasheed, and marbury is bouncing apparently. AI is a free agent and contemplating going to Memphis. What if Boston recruits him to come off the bench? You could potentially have Rondo/AI, pierce, Ray Allen, KG, 'sheed. Marbury leaving takes $20 million off the books for Boston, in which they could easily pay both. How insane is that lineup?
