Carpal Tunnel .... Help.
« on: February 02, 2012, 07:53:40 PM »
Lately I've been working on my laptop a lot and I think I might have Carpel Tunnel. My pinky on my right hand is all numb and I can't feel it, whatsoever. If anyone else has had this experience in the past .... please tell me what I can do to get rid of it !

Thanks,

If it's just your pinky that's being affected, then it's probably not carpal tunnel. With carpal tunnel syndrome you get compression of the median nerve which runs thru the carpal tunnel, and that provides innervation to your thumb, index, and middle fingers, and half of your ring finger. Plus, you'd get some pain in your palm and you might have a weaker grip. The ulnar nerve, which innervates the pinky, doesn't run through the carpal tunnel.

But this isn't to trivialize what you're feeling, if you're concerned about it then go see a doc.

Thanks, I think its from all the pressure I've been putting on my elbow. I've had so many assignment's lately that I haven't left the laptop. I've checked a few sites and all confirm that it's either elbow pressure or diabetes aha

Agree with the post 2 above me. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome affects the median nerve, but the pinky is innervated by the ulnar nerve. So I don't think its Carpal Tunnel. The median nerve innervates the fingers mentioned by that above post.
