Cure Paul
« on: November 22, 2011, 08:27:42 PM »

Hello Everyone,
My Chacha has been diagnosed with Leukemia, which is a type of blood cancer for a second time. During his last battle with Leukemia he did not need a bone marrow transplant, however this time around he is in dire need of a marrow donor. Asians make up a very small number of the registered donors, we need more people to register at www.marrow.org.
When a Desi is in need, the chances of a gora, kala, peela to be a match is very rare. You might not be a match for my Chacha but there are chances of so many others you might be able to help out.
Before my Chacha got diagnosed I know my family was very unaware of the procedure and we really hope to create awareness around the Indian community and also host bone marrow drives around Gurdwaras in California. Many times people think "hawwww, its too painful of a process" but that is only for the person receiving the treatment, for the donor it is as simple as donating blood. If someone is a match, the doctor will give them a shot a week prior to them giving blood, and from the blood the donor gives they extract the marrow. Also after registering if you are asked to go through a surgical procedure and you don't want to- they give you the choice of saying no. Please do help, a little hassle in your part could save some ones life.

Shiaaat that's pretty terrible. I looked at that site but it seems that only Americans can register and donate to that specific website whereas citizens of other countries looking to donate are limited to do so in only their country of residence... but I hope it all works out and he finds a donor.

on one of the two pages there are links posted for people that are willing to become donors in canada, india and the UK... we haven't really researched locations anywhere else so far
