Anyone heard anything about(from a participant) or been to one of the events?  Seems like it could be fun but I don't want to waste my time..

Some people are trying to get me to do it for COD: Black Ops, but I wanted more info.

P.s if you want to play hit me up!

lived the MLG life for 4 years in counterstrike ... if you dont live & breathe the game don't waste your time, theres a million better people than you. i hate to sound like a cynic, but my team was sponsored and was forced to spend 6 plus hours a day playing counterstrike 6 days a week like an actual job and we still came up short and never really made it. good luck

it's pathetic when i look back and realize how much time i wasted to be so god damn good at counterstrike. here's a few pics to show you i'm not lying and mean it when i say if youre willing to stop doing everything and just focus on a video, only then approach MLG or youll get embarrassed.

my team. we were sponsored by businessman in canada who paid for our team clothing, flights to counterstrike competitions, and took 30% of anything we won at tournaments. nerds to the max.

our folder that carried a picture of every map in the game that had our own custom strategies we had to memorize and execute during tournaments (ie formations in bhangra)

So it seems you are the guys who shoot me in the face every 15 seconds in MW2 (really didnt feel like wasting my money on MW3... just got BF3)

EDIT: In my defense, I've been gaming w/ a keyboard+mouse on my PC for the past 10-15 years, never had a console and just got a PS3 this summer. I'm definitely a PC/mouse gaming snob and used to it.

using a keyboard + mouse excuse wont work! majority of gamers in the world are pc gamers ... im the same as you saleem, i cant play first person shooters at all on console, but bring the same game to pc and i will wreck your face :D

Counterstrike (CS) 1.6 is probably the most popular shooter in competitive leagues to date and there is a good reason why. Despite the game itself being almost 12 years old (first beta was released in 1999) and the graphics not being on par with more modern games such as BF3, COD:MW3, etc., it still has a ton of fans/players. It's the ultimate First Person Shooter (FPS) because it leaves very little to chance and comes down to two things: precision & reflexes. You'll never find things like 3D spotting, assisted fire, and weapons that can lock on through solid objects in Counterstrike.

While I have played my fair share of the "newer" FPS games out there (including Crysis/Crysis 2, BF series, COD series, Quake, Unreal Tournament, etc etc).. Counterstrike still draws my attention the most due to it's highly addictive nature (Navkarn can vouch for that). I've been playing it since Beta 3 was released (late 1999/early 2000)

If anyone ever wants to play CS 1.6 on Steam, hit me up a PM and we'll game!

~ Basim :)

P.S. - I never took my gaming to the extreme with MLG, but I have played in smaller regional tournaments & at various LAN parties with friends while growing up. I don't have the time for that shiat anymore. lol.

one of my good friends was an MLG gamer for halo for quite a while; he ultimately pulled out because he spent more money doing it than he ever made. it's pretty difficult to get your MLG team sponsored like navkarn's was, increasingly so for the more popular games, and doing everything out-of-pocket makes it really difficult. you have to dedicate yourself to the game 24/7 just to stay competitive, yet somehow manage to magically have unlimited money to spend doing it. flights to competitions, hotel expenses, food, etc. is all out-of-pocket unless you're sponsored, and if you make an incomeless activity your job, that can get to be really expensive. as far as "waste your time," MLG is going to take up a shit ton of it. there's definitely a good amount of money to be made in professional gaming (look at Starcraft) but it's incredibly hard to make it.
