WTF!!!! it is an insult to sikhi because it's done in the presence of SGGS. it's also insulting because they're presenting themselves as amritdhari gursikhs, most of em are wearing kirpans. i'm not a very religious person and this shit disturbs me because of the blatant disrespect to what the gurus and shaheeds gave their lives for. if people don't wanna follow sikhi that's completely fine, if people wanna make their own path that's fine, but to pretend to be amritdhari gursikhs and to completely disregard real sikhism and make personal gains, deserves punishment. this shit is disgusting. i find it pathetic that groups like this exist, wtf is the sgpc doing bout this kinda crap???

People deserve the right to practice their faith in whatever way they want, and if this is the way they think Sikhi should be then they can go ahead and practice it. All anyone should do is express their opinion of saying "this is not congruent with Sikhi".

Specifically, let me know what actions they should take before you take personal shots. Also, the SGPC proved itself to be a joke with their sexist views on so many things related to women.

Specifically, let me know what actions they should take before you take personal shots. Also, the SGPC proved itself to be a joke with their sexist views on so many things related to women.so being called a nirankari offends you? you are the same dude that took offense when NYPD used a jakara in their mix, right? yet you're willing to just overlook blatant disrespect and say that it's fine because that's how they wanna practice sikhi. "All anyone should do is express their opinion of saying "this is not congruent with Sikhi"i couldnt tell if you were joking or if u were just trolling to start an argument, hence the "personal shot"; the fact that you were serious makes it more pathetic. it's that kind of attitude that allows for groups like ravidasis, nirankaris, radhaswamis, udasis to preach their own corrupted versions of sikhism. to practice sikhi is to follow the SGGS and only the SGGS and what these groups have done is take the SGGS or parts of the SGGS and modified and warped it to create something different, which in my opinion is heretical and goes against what the gurus created. sikhism as an organized religion has all the same issues any other organized religion has, mainly corruption, greed, and ignorance, on top of that you have all these cults, and then you also have random pakhandi babay running their own little satsangs preaching their own personalized version of sikhism. for sikhism as a religion to retain its legitimacy, these issues need to be addressed. how should the sgpc and other sikh groups address these issues? by educating people, by highlighting the corruption as much as possible, by trying to teach people not to just be blind followers so they don't go around matha teking random babay. i think it will make a big difference if the common man is able to differentiate between everything that's out there, the most important lesson being that all these cults have nothing to do with sikhi. education makes the difference, hopefully people will be smart enough to turn away from the kind of crap shown in the video and eventually that kinda weird shit will die out.
I think using Jakaras in a bhangra setting where there is drinking/misogyny/violence is the wrong time/place. I think what these guys are doing is also odd and not what we consider mainstream Sikhi. But I respect their right to be able to do it. I am not one of these people promoting a theocracy where Sikhs should take to the streets and kill anyone who is not practicing their faith the way they want, or where we should go around censoring peoples' actions and beliefs. Punjab has enough of that going on. If someone wants to be a Nirankari, go for it. I don't care, it doesn't affect me. And if these guys want to do this stuff during Kirtan, then they can go ahead and do it. The SGPC has obviously gone on record to say this is not in line with Sikhi, but beyond that they have nothing to do with it. You want everyone to follow the same standardized version of Sikhi. Guess what? That is not possible. Show me one religion in world history without sects or difference in thoughts. It just doesn't work that way. Any time you have any sort of text (religious or otherwise) there will be different interpretations. Rather than obsessing over what people call themselves or how they listen to Kirtan, how about people focus on doing positive things in the world that make a tangible difference? I would rather the SGPC focus on programs to feed the poor and deal with AIDS than spend their time and money regulating how people move in a place of worship. And when you consider how corrupt and sexist the SGPC is, why would you expect THEM to be the upholders of Sikhi? I don't want them educating people, they need some educating themselves in my opinion. For you Sikhi is an organized religion where everyone should conform to the same exact thoughts, beliefs, actions. To me it is a philosophy that guides the way I live. I don't spend my time or energy on trying to get people to behave the way I want them to behave, I focus on bettering myself and doing positive things. If these guys on the stage are out there doing seva and treating everyone they meet and know with love/respect, I don't care if they are a part of a dera or anything else. The problem I have comes when Deras steal peoples' money and don't do anything tangible...all they do is tell people to practice some rituals and call it a day. If that is going on, sure I would go on the record to say they are irresponsible and disgusting, but if someone wants to call himself a Nirankari or Ravidasi good for them. If it brings them peace and happiness it is none of my business. The SGPC probably considers you a heretic, should they come to your house and tell you how you need to start practicing your faith?
