SINGER DALJIT DA JLOOS

Respect to these women for standing up and demanding the music industry in Punjab stop objectifying women and tacitly approving of sexism. Diljit has devolved into a caricature of everything wrong with the Punjabi music industry ever since he has worked with Honey Singh.

He went from this:

Paggan Bochhmian - Diljit Dosanjh

To this:
URBAN PENDU 15 SAAL SONG MAKING - DILJIT & YO YO HONEY SINGH

I will never understand people like these. They're blaming the singers/lyricists (understandable) BUT what about the girls who go into these videos? They have every right to say NO to w/e they're not comfortable with. It's a two way street, don't blame only the singers/lyricists.

Another thing that blows my mind is that THIS got protests BUT the sarpanch who slapped the girl.. what about that? & these are the same people talking about respect for women (correct me if I'm wrong about the outcome of that)

I could go on and on about this but I'll stop =|

If you have been following the news the sarpanch who slapped the girl has been getting a fair amount of attention. There have been protests in regards to that too. It is not as if this is the only issue people care about. I am willing to bet that the people protesting the way in which women are portrayed in the Punjabi music industry are also the ones protesting many other relevant issues.

Regarding the blame, yes there is plenty to go around. But just because some girls are in the music video or some like the song doesn't mean there is any less of a problem with the direction the industry is going.

I haven't seen updates on the news about the sarpanch but thanks for the clarification on that. & regarding the comment he made about the 'run bottle vargi' Kuldeep Manak/Chamkila and many other folk singers used the word 'run' in a handful of songs, but no protest towards him or any other of those old school/folk singers for that matter.

But nonetheless more power & respect to these people for what they're standing up for.

This isn't the first time someone has protested a Punjabi singer. You guys do know Chamkila was killed right? And there is a general consensus it was because of the music he was putting out.

Also, the industry has taken a sharp turn from having elements of misogyny and sexism to being almost all degrading to women. You cannot compare the era of Kuldip Manak, Surinder Shinda, Malkit Singh and the likes to what we have with Honey Singh and Diljit.
