how is $400 fair for a mix at all? ???
let me try to wrap my mind around this
for $400 you get:
a 5-6 minute bhangra mix most likely made by some clueless kid who barely has an understanding of the punjabi language, who uses a bootleg version of acid pro 7 like 98% of the desi kids out there who claim to be dj's/mixers. along with not having a complete understanding of punjabi songs, these kids also don't have a good understanding of bhangra, AND they're also just layering in the same instrumental loops as everyone else in an attempt to "hype" up the mix. then they go and use the same generic popular songs everyone else is using, partly out of laziness, partly because dumb teams these days love to fail at staying ahead of trends. so you end up with a mix that has no thematic flow or cohesiveness, songs distorted and remixed to hell completely destroying the original essence of the songs, a mix that makes it almost impossible to craft a bhangra set that flows well. you pay $400 for what is probably 4-10 hrs of work(if you can call it that) for a mix that is already stale before it's done being played for the first time at a competition and you're stuck with that same shitty mix for a few more performances/competitions because apparently a mix costs $400.
to be fair, i would pay $400 for a mix...if it:
1. wasn't layered with shitty effects and clips to hell and back, having 200 layers in a mix isn't creativity, it's ignorance and idiocy, you're trying to hide your lack of talent behind a pile of flashy crap, congratulations you're a kardashian
2. used proper music, mixing random angreji music isn't progressive, it's just an easy way to kill flow
3. stayed away from popular songs, that one song that's big right now, ya everyone else has it too....and they're also planning on using it....at the same competition
4. highlighted the songs properly, my rule for remixes applies for performance mixes, if you modify a song it should sound better than original version, if not you suck
5. had good flow, TEMPO AND THEME!!!!! songs should flow from one to the next, if a mix flows well the dancing will flow well
so teams, save yourself $400 and make your own mixes, even if it sounds like crap it's still less besti cuz a mix you paid $400 will probably sound just as shitty except you'd be out $400
