I'm pretty sure it's going to be Obama...just because the Republican party is in such shambles after Bush...What really upset me was the rally that Obama recently held in Berlin..as much as he is appealing as a young, enthusiastic leader...I think that was a bit much...it made him look more like a spectacle (like the rolling stones were in town)...then a political figure...the crowd was not even paying attention to his speech...BUT it does prove that he will be a billion times more popular overseas then our present president and john mccain combined...Also...France's president Sarcozi seemed to take quite a liking to Obama which comes as no surprise from a leader of a liberal country with a considerable population of African Americans..I do not think that Obama should have taken questions next to Sarcozi...it seemed brash once again...I understand Obama is trying to show voters that he can be a "commander in chief"...but to some, his insistence on already acting like hes head of state...can seem to downplay the fact that he still needs to be elected.

I'm glad this topic was started...we should try and keep it going weekly up until the elections with commentary...things you felt were acts of political brilliance or disasters on the part of the candidates....a more interesting question...

Bobby Jindal as VP? How do you all feel if he was to get the nod? And how do you feel about Jindal in general?

I agree with some of your commentary Jetti... It was defintely a spectale in Berlin, it was getting to be a bit too much. I guess though, research has shown that people decide their vote mostly with emotion, and that speech would have defintely brought some pictures of Kennedy and Regan back into their head, but it was a bit too much. Its funny what Jon Stewart said when they showed a clip of the German people waving the american flags (an OBVIOUS stunt by obama's people)... he was like WAIT WAIT, SOMETHING'S WRONG WITH THEIR FLAGS... THEY'RE NOT ON FIRE.. hah. Its true, not many germans are fan of the american ideals... the stunt looked like something out of a disney movie.

It seems like his people are pushing for this revolutionary image a little too hard. I really want to see Obama and McCain in a debate sometime soon, i know many will be coming but I just cant wait.

Jindal is a dweeb. He has given up on his community. You would think that somebody who got to his level would do more. NO RESPECT for those type of people. If people critisize obama for being a patsy to white america, then Jindal is 10 times worst. If sit here and am critical of the punjabi youth for their lack of concern for their community, how can I support a punjabi man that has given up and wont use his power for the betterment of his diaspora.

Guy is a joke. And something about wasp wasp republican city that makes me think the only reason McCain might pick Jindal as a mate, is to combat Obama's miniority appeal, but he's got that down on lock, and once Jindals profile is revealed they will show how this dude could care less about his community.

Good idea about the weekly updates though.

You are absolutely correct about Jindal bro....his true colors will be exposed as best possible by the Obama people if McCain were to put him on the ticket. I think the sad part is that he is the only indian politician in the United States to position himself for perhaps a VP run...but its a HUGE SHAME how he went about doing it not to mention his complete giving up on his own community. He is a complete sell out. I also agree that the revolutionary ideal of Obama needs to be toned down considerably...we don't need a full blown revolution with throngs of people showing up and chanting...we just need a president that will point us in the right direction....I still have not decided who I enjoy more...there have been flashes of brilliance from both of these candidates...McCain impresses me when he does open town hall meeting...his candidness is appealing....while Obama's young, calm, composed, intellectual tone can turn anyone into a believer.

...this election is wonderful because for once in awhile...we have voters voting for who they think is better...rather then the lesser of two evils.

Agree with Jeeti about France and Africans. Interesting story: I was in London taking the underground train to Paris a few weeks ago when I was vacationing in Europe. The French customs official (black guy) was looking extremely suspiciously at me because I guess I had my dari grown out and looked like your typical young desi guy (so thus, open to interrogation). Either way, this man as he was searching me and asked for my passport, was surprised to see that I was a U.S. citizen. the minute he saw my passport, all he said was: "America? You vote Obama?". I said yes, and with a big smile, he was just like "Go Go Go!". So yes, in short, Obama is very popular abroad, which may help us alot, because this administration totally forgot that you need the support of the world in making big decisions, that America alone cannot fight all the battles.

Also, does anyone find McCain's main platform not making any sense: He wants to cut "wasteful" government programs and taxes but continue in Iraq once "the troops are victorious and the threat against radical Islam is removed" (from his official pamphlet). How will that add up in the budget (lower govt spending, thus less govt jobs, lower GDP + huge Iraq expenditures - Taxes)? And how can you not see the Iraq war as an example of wasteful, government spending?

Varun, don't understand your statement wondering if you could clear it up. First off, thats a cool story. Defintely speaks to his appeal. What countries did you visit in Europe?

Regarding McCain, are you assuming that the US staying in Iraq past the end of the conflict as "wasteful government spending". I dont know about the whole radical islam thing because its subjective, but if you went into a country, stole their natural resources, launched them into a civil war, and profitted immensely, I would think the government would remain in Iraq. It is not wasteful, and rather essential for so many reasons. To prevent choas, to insure the safety of the population.

Also not that I agree with cutting out wasteful governmental programs, and organizations (if I remember he is against the FBI and/or CIA) but he revolves his idea with the funding wasted on un-successful worthless organizations can be put to better use, which drives up effiency and should drive up GDP. The correlation between less governmental jobs to low GDP is faulty. The GDP in part is driven by the effiency of the government. Less funding for worthless organizations, more funding more programs of importance, poverty, healthcare etc...

Thats his platform. Not that I think it will be accomplished by his government, but thats what he is proposing

I really hope Obama wins but I don't think it's going to happen because I don't think the typical White American is ready to have someone lead the country whose not white.

you are absolutely right, except his father is from Kenya, not Nigeria.

and to answer your original question, barack obama is going to win. Inshallah.

Mccain is gunna win... it's always like this, the dude who appears to be winning never wins the damn thing... Happened with Kerry, gunna happen with Obama... Maybe we'll get to see more Paris Hilton vs. Mccain ads? She looked half way decent for the first time ever...

the thread lives on...thank you..

Recently...Obama and McCain have very seriously insulting each other's policies and ads.....I was really hoping this wouldn't happen and that they'd stick to the issues as two very intellectual men..but thats definitely too ideal of thinking..

I'm scared McCain's attacks are going to make Obama say something really stupid, or the other way around..probably due to Obama's composure...some of this stuff is more likely to make McCain flip...its impossible to say whats gonna happen...

Doesn't matter who the VPs are gona be either...they will sway essentially no ones vote...

McCains puttin up quite a fight though....these new polls show him pretty close...which I'm surprised given the shambles that Bush left the Republican party in.
