House passes CISPA

CISPA is dangerous because it overrules all existing federal and state laws by saying "notwithstanding any other provision of law including privacy policy or terms of service agreement. Companies may share certain confidential customer information with any other entity, including the federal government."

In other words, if you sign up for internet access with Cablevision or an email account with Google or Yahoo, the terms of service and privacy agreements will not apply. According to the bill, e-mail and internet companies do not have to honor privacy agreements and can share any and all of your information with federal and private agencies.

In short, CISPA gives companies legal cover to break privacy contracts and forward personal information.

The bill also passed the House last year, but was defeated in the Senate. Let's hope the same happens this year. :)
