Red and Blue are usually the brightest/stick out the most in comparison to a yellow or green. So the best 4 usually get those 2 colors so they stand out the most.

Hahahaha..Good Question !
The colour Red, being hot and catchy, is/was mostly used by the best team members, like captain and co-captain, if the other team members are not at par with them...so time and again the drummers try to bring them in the front, either in the form of circle or lines' sequence, so that the audience/judges can enjoy their dance as the BEST to get more marks and appreciation.. These things were used in India in 1950-60's when the stage was 3-4 ft. above the audience and ppl. used to sit on the ground..so they see only the front dancers, as the last ones and their steps were not visible from that angle.
But, these days the scene has changed and the audience/judges are not so fool to just see the two persons..the persons dancing on the back are more visible from auditorium's height and are well compared to the so called Red Ones. Colours are just for the combinations either its Red, Green, Yellow or Blue..if the team is perfect, no matter which colour/combinations they have used. It depends on the performance, not the attire. For Example - Khalsa Junction and SIAC mostly use normal traditional dresses and their performance is almost THE BEST !!
So, to win a competition, it all depends on the thorough practice, good n simple choreography, accuracy, synchronisation, transitions, team spirit, traditional costumes, selecion of related music, creativity, special effects/ stunts, style, energy of the team, graceful steps with 100 % smile, Marak, and the above all....
