Haha bro Nas did ether him but it didn't have any impact on his career. And I personally think if Jay came with an all out diss track, it coulda been fire (only 1 verse in Takeover didn't do justice, even though the track was hot as hell). I wanted Jay to respond but the rivalry just went down with the stupid Supa ugly's and the H to the Omo's. I think it was closer than what most people think. Yea Ether was crazy but it had some weak parts like the namecalling. Plus I think Takeover is too underrated.

I dont think I've listened to Nas enough, just some of his mainstream stuff throughout the years (yes, Im 100% bhangra baby). Either way, I think Immortal Technique would demolish anyone. If that guy got signed by a label and actually got proper exposure like other artists do, it would be game over for everybody else.

.....im probably gonna get chewed out for this. lol

Immortal Technique is sick...the guy has some of the craziest lyrics and would tear most rappers up lyrically....but the only thing with him is his flow is pretty shaky. A lot of times, its just straight trash, lol.

But the music he makes just isn't meant for mainstream. MTV, BET or no radio station is going to play "4th Branch", "Harlem Streets" or anything of the like b/c the subject matter is just too critical of the powers that be for them. Plus, he rarely has a catchy hook...he has music you have to rewind over and over to fully grasp, not just put on and chill out to. Regardless, Technique did have a major record deal but turned it down b/c they wanted him to water his music down and he chose to stay as an independent artist.

One of the best story telling rap tracks of all time- Immortal Technique: You Never Know

ya, immortal technique is insane, lyrically he is a BEAST, his flow can be weak though.
definitely one of the most talented, intelligent, and thought provoking hip-hop artists out there

and like harman said, no major record label would ever sign him unless he were to dumb down his lyrics and stop criticizing the powers that be

Bro I've been a Nas fanatic since day 1...like someone else on the thread the first cd I ever got was It was written back in '96...highly underrated album. After this my brother bought the CASSETTE of I Am...which he swears is his best album. I disagree though, because it showed how he was successful at crossing over into mainstream, not as a rapper so to speak. After that it was Stillmatic, and the best song off that album was "poison" not "rewind" :O
After that I had to cop Illmatic and for 1 whole year as a freshman I just listened to that in college. I didn't like people at that point in my life, so Nas was an artist who made the fire burn for me. I never copped God's Son, but I bought Street's Disciple, and Hip Hop is Dead...:) this is the next one I will buy :)

I think Nas is one of the only artists to feature a wide range of MC's from all over the US and from different styles...who else has worked with Scarface, Dre and Jay Z, just to name a few huge artists from different regions...

to think the beef with jay-z did nothing for nas' career is silly. it totally revitalized his career, and it shook him out of doing his pandering to the mainstream. remember, the last two albums he released at that point were "i am..." and "nastradamus", the latter being his no decision worst album ever, and "i am..." being easily his most mainstream album. after jay-z called him out, he shot back with "stillmatic", and nas was back as king of ny. even though i dislike jay-z for being the ultimate sell out (but, you gotta do what you gotta do to get that money), i do respect what he did for nas in lighting that fire under his ass.

side note, i'm so happy to see so many nas heads on this board, it's so refreshing to see people actually appreciate good music instead of the crap that comes out nowadays (i'm looking down south :) )

Hahhaha nooo mannn, I meant to say it didn't do much to Jay's career since the poster above me said that "Nas ether'ed Jay". Definitely changed Nas' career but Jay never really took a hit from that. Lol....

K my whole post was deleted  trying to load the song, but yea....

Gugu, I only said it being a biased Nas fan, and just teasing. You are correct, it didn't even FAZE Jay-z's career. But it definitely worked wonders for Nas, who had been falling in the cracks of mainstream. Yet for those of you talking about I Am... as his most mainstream work can't deny that the beast was still present (see UNDYING LOVE above!). The war with Jay unleased him once again. Oh, and even the name calling was on point. Jay-Z looks like Joe Camel, twins seperated at birth. (yes takeover was heat. Beat was Kanye, not alot of people know that).

As for Immortal Technique, like has been said, lyrically ill, but inconsistent flow. Hoping to hit up rock the bells when it rolls through Ft. Lauderdale. Get to see both these artists plus Wu, Mos, Rakim, Dead Prez, Jedi Mind Tricks and many others.

Oh and sulmoney, being from South Florida, I must come to the South's defense! Now don't get me wrong, I am NOT a big fan of music playing on the radio these days, and I can't say I like south music. But it is that dirty south vibe that is responsible for EVERY club banger these days. Hell, we're the ones getting people to come to the clubs! Lol you won't ever see me Crank Dat Soulja Boy, but i have to give the south props becuase it does what it does, and it does it well. Again, not trying to argue whether its GOOD or not. But personally, in the club or at a party, I'm not trying get deep with all the words to "Rewind" or "Hip-Hop". Just wanna get crunk! lol.

Oh and Nikhil, I'll have to very respectfully disagree. Poison was great, but Rewind wins purely off its concept and imagery.

BTW anyone know the rules on posting NONbhangra music? lol I was gonna post a couple of the tracks for those of you still waiting for Untitled if anyone wanted, but dont want to break any rules now... Saleem/Waleed?

hey kush,
im an ny man, so i gotta rep the ny rappers, i tease about the south haha...but i do give you that, production from the south is good, and it is all about crazy beats and club bangers but personally, i prefer substance over style, so that's one of the reasons im a big nas fan...and for i am, i was a big fan of the album, i loved undying love, hate me now is a classic, nas is like is money, and the whole album was solid through and through, its just has gotten a lot of whiplash from (other) nas fans as his sell out album, though there were the nas classics there...

and as for posting non bhangra songs, it is a topic that we brought up at our moderator's meeting in late june, with the consensus being we don't know haha...my recommendation, link to a youtube vid, or link to someplace you can listen to it online, lets not try hosting songs/albums on here if possible

Did anyone catch last night's episode of The Colbert Report? Summy's boy Nas was on there--talking about his new album, the petition he has going around against Fox (Faux) News, and performed the track "Sly Fox". Gotta love the stephen colbert/nas collabo

here is a link to the episode in case you missed out:
