but seriously, this meeting is to better US-India relations--something that bush largely ignored. its an honor for india and for Punjabis everywhere to have Dr. Singh invited for the first state dinner! its awesome seeing his face everywhere so people in the US can see the turban in a good light.

I would have to disagree with that assessment. Bush actually (sadly stating this) did a lot for US-India relations. There was a great working relationship between the countries, it all started at the end of Clinton's term when he met Vajpayee. The gandhi years weren't great...pretty stupid stuff. But, Bush did a lot since he saw the threat and lack of support from Pakistan, he went to India. Obama has largely ignored India thus far, focusing more on China and Pakistan a bit more. But now, India will really be brought to the forefront i think, Sec of State Clinton has great relations with the Indian people...lot of respect there.

Completely agree with you....one of the things that Bush did do correctly was foster an excellent relation with India. Obama hasn't kept up with it to a large extent. Heres an article by Fareed Zakaria regarding the issue

I was trying to find that earlier. I love Fareed Zakaria (up until he talks about how the Nehru government was great and secular in his books)...but he's a great international scholar at that. I read that piece last night in the recent Newsweek (great magazine with even better editorials). I do hope Obama does more to talk with India and foster a better relationship, and hopefully it'll work to the benefit of the US as well.

I agree with this. India is a huge economic powerhouse in the region that is not named China.
