Saying would of or should of...etc

Is it slang when people say would of or should of? Do people not realize its would HAVE and should HAVE? I don't come on BTF often but i see so many people post stuff like that. This has become a growing trend and the number of people saying stuff like that is a bit scary!!!!!

One can make an argument that language is proper if it communicates the message intended correctly to the vast majority of its speaking population. Like most of the grammatical errors made online, it is result of people being more familiar with the vocalized, spoken language rather than the written.

But I will avoid making that argument since I have done my fair share of grammar correction on this forum.
