I feel it's important to give these DJ's some feedback (even a little bit - i.e. "I liked your mix" or "I thought you could have improved on...") because they at least attempted to create a mix and it's not their fault that their opponents could not submit a song in time. I urge BTF to comment in this thread just as much as the other challenge topics to give these DJ's some recognition.
My feedback:
DJ Preet - I really like this song. Great choice mixing mods! I wish you played out the hip hop for the intro a little while longer DJ Preet. That was a creative way to start and it blended well, but it was way too short for me to really "enjoy." Your mix overall sounds overly compressed! Why is that? All I hear are mid's being the main focus. The original song is really dynamic and I wish you kept that in your mix. You completely suppressed the low bass hits in the original song and that was one of my favorite aspects of the song. It didn't seem like you did much with the original song from 0:03-0:26, but maybe I'm missing something. The transitions from 0:27 to 0:30 was absolutely brutal - you killed it there my friend. I wished you dropped a low bass note right after transition because that would have been amazing. So I finally realized where you were hiding the bass this whole time - it was nicely done from 0:31-0:39. I like the background effects and song used to close out your mix from 0:40 until the end. I actually prefer your ending to the song more than the original song itself! If you just didn't compress the mix so much, I wouldn't truly enjoyed your mix from start to finish. Nice attempt given the short amount of time though.
NKrishan - I enjoyed your take on this song very popular song by Punjabi MC. I liked what you added into the background of the original song during the first 10 or 11 seconds of your mix. It might have been subtle, but it definitely help you differentiate yourself. I liked that you brought back the drumming sound at 0:15 to utilize in your transition. I wish you did a little more to change the consistent beat of "Jogi" from 0:16-0:34 - it dragged on a bit too long for my taste. The clapping outro wasn't anything spectacular because that came directly from the original song. I wish you would have showed off your talent a little more during this week's challenge.
KaranDeol - First of all, I have to say that I like the original song a lot to begin with. I enjoyed the clean and simple build up until 0:12. From what I can tell afterwards, you decreased the bpm of the original song slightly. I think that this song was challenging to mix this song even more because it's already "mixed" by DJ Ice (the version that I have anyway). I loved what you did right after the main chorus came about from 0:34 to 0:39 - that was an awesome transition. I personally felt the bass was a bit too heavy for my liking after this point. I probably wouldn't have minded if you brought out the vocals and high's a bit more in the mix. Besides the increases bass, I didn't hear much that you changed from 0:39 until 1:02. I don't know if this was due to a lack of creativity or time, but either way - I was expecting a bit more of a change than the original song. The drum roll at 1:02-1:05 provided for a clean transition. I think you tried to add something into the background from 1:05 until the end, but I honestly wasn't feeling it nor did it add anything of value to your mix imho. Your ending was simple. I would have hoped you tried to bring more elements to this song - I think it may have been hard because the song was already "mixed" by DJ Ice, but regardless, I was expecting a little more.
