that is siiiiick. they look clean for a bunch of people who are probably just messing around and didnt even practice. I like how you can even recognize some of their steps as those seen in bhangra routines (like the kneeling down and bringing both arms down from shoulder to sides). sick vid bro, where in punjab was it taken?

Manjot - I agree, this gives us an idea what original jhummar looked like. Now jhummar is performed on stage with the goal being to entertain an audience or impress the judges. Back in the day it was done purely to celebrate.

Varun - I think this looks like Multan on the Pakistani side. They speak a different dialect of Punjabi called 'Saraiki'.

this is ATAN dancing (pakhtun)..this is a vid of my cousin and family friends in germany

the cool thing about even modern west punjabi folk dancing is that it still has very evident similarites to afghan atan, AND balochi JUMMER (meaning jungle dance)

i think comptondajatt posted a balochi link on pol once...u guys should see it, its pretty cool, n similar.

and garba must be similar too...u got all those neighboring races doin a similar dance in pakhtun, baloch, gujrati, punjabi, and even sindhis i duno if uve seen some proper desert sindh stuff. its all pretty cool

pakistani shokeen...DO IT UPPPP

Damn TZ, good find. Those spins are sick.

Such performances are true folk dances because any of the locals can jump in and join the 'line'. The purpose isn't to put on an act but to celebrate the occasion.

Sick video,
You can really see some of the similarities between what we consider traditional bhangra today and moves in the video. For just breaking it down at a wedding, some of the guys are pretty talented.
It's nice to see some old school party like this where they dance to live music.

hey waleed i dont think thats actually jhummar...i have seen a little pakistani jhummar as well, and it looked different to me...in fact i think wat u posted is actually pakistani luddi...here is another vid of it:
http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=luddi&sitesearch=#q=luddi&sitesearch=&start=20

listen to the beginning beat...its very similar to the vid u posted...i dont know that much about luddi, but i think its one of the main popular dances in pakistan from my impression...i could be wrong, but just my thoughts :)

and yea taiymur im sindhi haha...so yea i kno wat u mean by sindhi dances...in fact jhummar originated in the pakistan area that was once sindh (sindh was larger in land area before)...i kno wenever our family has weddings n we sing/listen to sindhi songs, the beat n dance has some very similar elements to the jhummar we see in these bhangra vids
