Who else is mixed-punjabi?

Hello all,

You'd be surprised at the types of reactions that I've gotten over the years from people when they find out that I'm half white and half punjabi. I've never had a problem with it, but I've also never talked to anyone about it. There are 9200+ members on here, so it seems like a nice platform. I tend to lean more to punjabi culture and when I'm around brown people I've always been able to fit in without any problems. I think I finally realized that I wasn't brown when I was 8 years old, traveling to a relative's house a few hours away and was told by the other kids that I couldn't play with them because I was white. It confused the hell out of me, but I don't think that I was offended lol.

Back to my original purpose of this now.

I'm just curious as to how many mixed punjabi people you all have met in your lives. Tell me about your experiences with them and how you reacted when you found out (even more awesome if they're jatt like me). It interests me that there are so few of my kind and I'd love to know more about them. It gets lonely out here for a biracial kid lol. Anyway thanks for reading my rant and I look forward to your responses. Feel free to ask questions as well. :]

There's actually a lot of mixed Punjabi's in NY. I've met people who were also half Punjabi half Spanish or White. I've also met many people who were part Punjabi. Surprisingly, a lot of my Haitian friends have a little Punjabi in them.

I'm really not surprised when they tell me. Living in Queens, I'm used to hearing people say that they're mixed with many different origins.

A little off topic, but whenever I tell people non-Indians that I'm Punjabi or Indian, the first thing they ask is for me to speak "Indian" or teach them something. The first thing I teach them are the curse words. I know I can't be the only one...

I live in Queens NY and I'm mixed as well. My mom's side of the family is from Punjab and Northern India and my dad is from Calcutta.
