is this true???

Kobe has a lot of respect for Michael Jordan. He feels that MJ earned his spot in the NBA as #1. Wearing the #24 symbolizes that he's the second best just out of respect for Michael Jordan. When Kobe scored the 81pts against the Raptors, he got out of the game, again out of respect for MJ. Both were coached by "Phil", and 11 more shots is all Kobe needed to break "Wilt Chamberlin Record' and you would have had to put Kobe ahead of Jordan for that reason. Along with millions of others, even Phil Jackson respected the spot Michael Jordan earned....

he actually needed 19 more points. Wilt scored 100.

and heres your answer as to why he changed his number to 24

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_did_Kobe_Bryant_change_his_number_to_twenty_four

the reason why he changed his number in the first place was to make a fresh start from all the drama he was in at the time with the rape case in colorado and conflicts with shaq.

I could be totally wrong as there were so many different reasons, but these seemed like the most accurate.

I'm pretty sure that's BS.

Kobe's high school number was 24, and his senior year he wore 33 because that was his dad's number. He couldn't get 33 when he entered the NBA because it had been retired by the Lakers for Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The number 24 was currently taken by another player on the team, so he went with 8 which was the sum of his number he wore at Adidas' ABCD Camp, 143.

The reason, at least what Kobe has stated to the press, is what Meistro said...he wanted a fresh start especially after the rape accusations and the beef with shaq. Havish is probably right as to why the number 8 is chosen, but I haven't heard anything about that.

My friend at Nike told me it was a lot of reasons, one big one being that once he changed his number people would go out and buy the new jerseys and he could stay on top of jersey sales. Kobe gives random answers when he is asked, sometimes he says because his favorite show is 24 or that it symbolizes he is at work 24 hours a day. Kobe haters will say its because he wanted to be +1 over MJ. ;)

23 will always be the best. He set the standard for greatness not only in basketball, but in all of sports. Kobe is a great player, but he will never leave the game accomplishing what MJ did. He revolutionized basketball culture. People can only copy the beauty he put in his footwear. I have a book about what influenced each Air Jordan shoe. Very interesting. He started the "baggy" shorts. He brought grace to the game. I cant even imagine players nowadays showing the same amount of professionalism off the court that Jordan did. So Kobe wanted to symbolize being one better than jordan by changing his number to 24? Theres a lot more to it than just a number.
