Hello Everyone
My name is Neeli also one of the judges from Bhangra in the 6ix.
I would like to start off by congratulating Shaan Punjab Dee for organizing, yet again, a fabulous competition. There was amazing energy, enthusiasm and positive energy throughout the Comp weekend from volunteers, liaisons, competing teams, and audience members. Thank you for putting this competition together and I was honoured to be apart of it again
I wanted to address this thread but not sure how accurate it is now given the moderators post above. However, I am sorry for the experiences a team or teams may have had at this competition that may have resulted in you feeling like the comp was “robbed”, that there was “favoritism”, etc. But Let’s not throw these words around loosely, as the judges we did our duo-diligence to ensure that the placing’s were reflective of bit6 vision, rubric mandate, and what was showcased organically on stage. We definitely had a tough job at bit6 to scale such amazing performances in the respective placing’s but overall we know and feel confident and content with the outcomes of the placing’s as they were all well deserved.
To Hardeep’s point the judges meeting with this specific team was getting out of hand where communicating with the team became very hard as they were aggressive, hostile , and quite upset hence why we called Prabh in. And it is really sad to see how badly Prabh was bashed for stepping in as an organizer to try to control and de-escalate the situation. Prabh was in no wrong we asked for him to be present.
The reality is out of a line up of many strong teams we only have the ability to place 3 teams. The teams that placed demonstrated exceptional adherence to the rubric and they did this through their composition and execution of their sets with sub-aspects of choreography, form, required segments, complexity etc. And all this was under the umbrella of folk/traditional Bhangra! Nonetheless, all teams that competed at bhangra in the 6ix brought their A game, there were awesome performances across the board.
However for the individual or team (not sure who started this thread) it shouldn't warrant bold and serious accusations of a competition being discriminatory , placing's are strictly a contained matter that only have to do with your set and performance not about your gender, alliances, etc. ... because trying to use this to rationalize why you didn't place is more detrimental for you and your team , than it is to one comp. and honestly this circuit is above and beyond this, .. girls teams and co-ed teams are killing it more than ever in the circuit today!! shoutout to SMD that brought a beautiful/graceful live Bhangra set , Florida bhangra for killing their first ever performance as a team, UVA di Shaan, UMD, our local girls team MMD and their little rockstar !!
And all I can say from a judging perspective is that we are 110% positive that No teams were discriminated against because they were an all girls team or co-ed team or boys team (ridiculous).. in fact last year an all girls live team took first place at the same comp with 2 of the same judges that participated at this years panel again! So once again if this is the perception or interpretation you got that girls teams or co-Ed teams were mistreated or misjudged based on gender or how a team is constructed, It’s completely wrong ..
we judged BHANGRA! Bottom line. Ps.Haven’t heard anything concrete about placings at this comp. being an issue.
Congrats to Soormay, NJ folk lovers, and NGPD - Live

unjabi Lok Nach and NJ Elite well earned placings !!!
Thank you to all the audience members, dancers, and supporters that provided positive feedback regarding the placing’s and the show (outside of this forum). It is great to always receive constructive feedback that is both positive and negative to further improve on annualized competitions.

I am more than happy to provide further feedback to teams that request it.

And I highly encourage teams that this individual is or was speaking for to share your thoughts with the organizers as I am sure they would honour any form of feedback from you all.
Much respect to all of you who are still apart of the Bhangra circuit, in whatever capacity you contribute to it !
Thank you
Goodbye.
