Re: ***CHANGE OF DATE/AHEM VVVEEENNNUUUUEEEEEE?!?! FOR BHANGRA BLOWOUT 18***

How is it Blowout without DAR Constitution Hall?! It's been held in DAR for >fifteen years!?

That's a huge change...even bigger change than just the date...

I'm assuming the venue and date were tied together. So if they wanted to change date then DAR was probably booked. If they wanted to change venue then the date probably had to change...the question is which one and why?

it's just surprising b/c venues as elite as DAR are probably on a 3 yr advance booking schedule, esp with annual events like Blowout which have been associated w/ the venue from the beginning...it's truly a remarkable experience to perform on that stage for the ~3500 people who show up.

possibly the most positive thing that can come out of the shift in venue is I truly hope that Blowout fires their lighting crew who don't seem to understand any kind of cues/timings that have been sent weeks in advance, nor do they care to do them during run-throughs.

RIP DAR </3...best thing about Blowout was definitely that venue...by far the most amazing performing experience to be on that stage in that constitution hall.

CHEA BB18! SO PUMPED. I think the venue change brings something new to BB. A nice change to a long existing competition.

my guess that they had to move bb because over the past few years, tickets just haven't been selling the way they used to be. back in the day, blowout was THE BIGGEST comp out there and no matter what it was sold out. i have been to the past few blowouts, and the crowd is dwindling every year. seeing that blowout is a charity event, maybe they felt that they could fit the entire crowd in warner (which might be cheaper) and donate more. thats my theory... either way, ill be there

actually, i think they only started using DAR within the last 8-10 years? their first competition started out in the seating area behind where the cafeteria is in Marvin Center, then they moved up to Lisner, which is where Elite 8 was last year, and within a few years they made the big transition over to Constitution Hall. They usually book the date for the next Bhangra Blowout when it used to be at DAR over the summer when the new BB coordinators have their feet on the ground, so if the venue and date changed, it must have been a huge decision through SAS, the coordinators, and the school. i wonderrrr what happened

ps sorry for the random history lesson haha

ahhh yes i know how it started off in the cafeteria :) how crazy is that!? i was basing my estimation off of that we 1997-1998 vid of MIT performing at Blowout in DAR but thanks for the clarification...

Bhangra Blowout has decided to begin a new tradition this year of experimenting with a different venue. We aim to make sure that our competition continuously evolves and never remains stagnant. We want to make this year the strongest it has ever been. With a brand new and prestigious venue such as Warner along with a strong focus on team hospitality, we look forward to putting on yet another successful Bhangra Blowout.
