not sure why its so surprising for one reason. Navi Sandhu has been a sick dancer for the last 2 years AT LEAST. In the vid that went up, i couldn't see faces but hte moment i realized it was a girl i knew it would be her because, apart from the obvious AEG/SMD collection, theres a handful of girls on the circuit that could dance that well and Navi's towards the top of that list. To be completely honest, other than Onkar and maybe 1-2 others, she out danced all of AEG in that performance. no contest.

Pretty sure AEG completely took this to a whole level.
Felt it should be talked about a bit because of how their gimmick completely dealt with this (which was amazing nonetheless whether or not you agree with cross dressing)

I think the AEG gimmick was executed tastefully. I've thought about this a bit more, and I think that women wearing men's clothes (as a norm, like AED/SMD performance rather than as a gimmick AEG Boston) ends up also circumventing whatever feminism or equality we could hope to have emerge out of bhangra. Women dressing up like men (but not totally, since we don't accept them all wearing paggan) seems to me to indicate that we want our women to be able to be exactly like men. I think there's some value to that, but it also doesn't let us take a step further to consider things like: how can women do bhangra in their own right that isn't just trying to be masculine, and also isn't trying to be oh-so-cute. We don't see men trying to wear chunnis and I'm not advocating that either, but I think women trying to fit into the cookie cutter than men forge has its limits. With that tangential thought I've been wanting to get off my chest since watching the performance, I tip my pagh to AEG for their performance, and Navi Sandhu. Haha it's crazy man. A pretty inspiring and frankly, a ballsy performance. I think this is much more than a gimmick and a very telling move by AEG. They're making a statement about gender equality in bhangra while just straight up killing a performance and doing several other gimmicks. Performance wise (sorry this is technically off topic) with the lasers, I really hoped you guys would get bigger backdrop banners, cuz the lasers keep straying and going "off the map'' and disappearing so to speak. You're probably retiring that gimmick now anyway though haha

Oh and of course it would be Navi that's why I was sayin it was a surprise, but then not one! I salute you.

Arjun ur right, navi was used to make a statement, not merely as a gimmick alone. "The what is folk?" lines are shifting and the idea is to blur them totally. Stay tuned.
