It's not about teams owning ideas/steps..etc. There are basic steps/formations that we can call the bread&butter of bhangra. (like staggers, circles, box phumania..etc) Variations to these basic steps/concepts is what we call creativity. Occasionally, we think of the exact same thing as another team, but unfortunately a team performs it before us. It may not be intentional stealing, but performing, in my opinion, is about entertaining the audience with execution and creativity. Why waste an opportunity to do a unique "Gator" phumania on Cornell's. If you were unaware, that's another thing, but that's not your argument at all.Kush said:I'm sorry. not ONE of those things you just listed actually belong to any of those teams. NJs Khundey pump up thing? Are you joking? i could list 10 teams that id seen do it before them. VCU's alternating line thing?
I'm gonna make a claim on WINDOWS. GUARDIANS DOES WINDOWS! NOONE IN BHANGRA IS ALLOWED TO DO WINDOW FORMATIONS UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE A DERIVATIVE.
Tired of people thinking shit like that BELONGS to teams. In fact, lets just say that DAV jalandhar did the PUNJAB with a hold first... noone is allowed to do punjab in a bhangra routine while facing the audience and holding their hands in the air, without pumping.
Gimme a break, this just made me SMH. so dumb.
Read the post right above yours bro(sis?). They didn't know. No need to give em a hard time. I personally didn't recognize anything of another teams', granted I didn't pay attention to call the team out on what they copied, rather just to watch/enjoy an up and coming team's performance.Sue Sylvester said:Why waste an opportunity to do a unique "Gator" phumania on Cornell's. Since you're so passionate about shaking your head and shooting this thought process as "so dumb", let's do this, big boy. You keep that mentality of yours that it's fine to imitate/mimic other teams creativity with your respective teams (GoB?). And I'll continue to push my two teams to keep on innovating, doing their own thang and trying to stand out in a unique way. Let's come back in a year and see what competitions we get into and how we do. Sound good, Dr. Kush?![]()

Noone copied anyone, none of the formations or moves you described were either established nor known to belong to any one team. These formations and movements were developed independent of watching NJ, Cornell, or anyone else. With the sheer number of teams and performances, if you worry about "doing what someone else did" you'll always step on someones toes. Cornells Phumaniya? really? gimme a break kinnell.
Someone said Fauj looks like a "amalgamation" of other teams... isnt that one of your teams? Hm... maybe you should worry about your own "derivitives" and creativity instead of demonstrating the amount of time you've spent memorizing other peoples routines and cataloging who has done what, so you AVOID YOUR OWN DEVELOPMENTS.
In addition, go ahead and push yoru teams to innovate. But do me a favor and just pick one team first please? So we can keep up with their performances/competition admissions. Truskool folk? Spartan Bhangra? AEG version 10? FAUJ? What groundbreaking innovative standalone style teams are you on again? Not that im calling you out for being on every team, but rather that you're going to tell me EACH OF THESE TEAMS IS COMPLETELY UNIQUE? lol
Harry and Jas sat for hours to think of formations, they didnt WATCH peoples routines and say lets use this, lets use that. The khunde pumps just WORKED, noone knew where it came from, whether we'd seen it before or if we'd created it but WHO CARES? NONE of the things you labeled typify a particular team. Its not like we were clicking our heels, or tossing people in the air like sgpd did (didn't i see that in fauj's set? hmm maybe now theyre copying sgpd...) ***EDIT: Before i get all of FAUJ to hate me, please realize that im being sarcastic. but if kinnell were reviewing your set, i feel he might think you copied team xyz who did something half way similar to what you did 2 years ago in a similar way but with a different move and booshit booshit booshit.***
like i said before. SMH. thats what the majority of your posts make me do, mostly because you have the worst tone in your writing ever. Even if you say something worth reading, i just ignore it cause of your context.
Love, we didnt know, but he's right, that wasnt my point. My point was everyone CARES WAY TOO MUCH! Really? like if i lean my khunde this way, or i move in a formation that way, i'm DOING SOMEONE ELSES THING?! lol its out of hand. Let me go through AEG's last sets and see what even REMOTELY resembled what someone else did and then say they copied them, just because i can. i'll feel Gleeful, like sue "i like turtles" sylvester
i know harry and jaskaran and they are not people to steal from another team. just like u accused us of stealing your "hand drawn" logo, you need to relax with the accusations u make. you are jeopardizing the reputation of teams based on your "2 cents". constructive criticism is fine, but please dont tarnish the hard work of others for shit like this. if u have a personal problem with kush then leave it elsewhere. but dont knock on all the hard work the gator guys have put in.Sue Sylvester said:It's not about teams owning ideas/steps..etc. There are basic steps/formations that we can call the bread&butter of bhangra. As I said twice already, that is one thing. But I'm replying to your argument that it's okay to copy, even if you know another team has done it. Of course, there is no Council of Creativity Enforcement™, but in the opinion of this Sue Sylvester, it does very little for the and is of little use to the team in the long run. I merely offered that opinion of mine.Kush said:Noone copied anyone, none of the formations or moves you described were either established nor known to belong to any one team. Please refrain from taking things out of context. That was said in regards to developing one dancing style amongst dancers and that multiple dancing styles exist on the team. That is FAUJ by definition. Our roster is composed of dancers of the Boston teams, which all vary in dancing style. We're working hard on changing that. That was not said in regards to choreography nor was it even implied in the post.Kush said:Someone said Fauj looks like a "amalgamation" of other teams... isnt that one of your teams? We all start somewhere and we are involved with teams in different ways and to different degrees. I'm talking about status quo and clearly pointed out that I am involved with two teams now.Kush said:In addition, go ahead and push yoru teams to innovate. I will promise you one thing: No one on FAUJ will hate you. Please review our performance and we would love you if you wrote us a critique. We will try to take every comment to heart and try to continue to be as unique as possible. If you felt that that the human swing move was similar to the SGPD tower toss, we will look into that!Kush said:Harry and Jas sat for hours to think of formations, they didnt WATCH peoples routines and say lets use this, lets use that. I don't see a connection here, Harman, nor do I see a connection with professionalism. Can you expand on this? Plenty of judges have posted their opinions and reviews of teams that they have not judged. If they did comment on teams they judged, it provides transparency, especially if they explain why they felt certain teams placed the way they did. And it gives you an idea about how the person thinks and what they like/don't like. (ie: I like turtles.) In the end, judges are fellow/ex-dancers like ourselves who have their own opinions that can vary. The degree of which they decide to publicize these opinions is irrelevant to their judging.hsdeol said:not to get involved, but i feel that if youre going to be involved with the judging of a competition in the near future (i.e. srujan) you should really refrain from publicly reviewing teams. it just seems like its unprofessional, and youre not accomplishing anything that can't be done via pm if you feel the need to tell a team your opinion that much
Bro, let's not put words in my mouth for me! I didn't accuse anyone of stealing - just to avoid derivative elements in the routine! And I definitely am not knocking on the hard work of the Gators! Y'all have potential as a collegiate team! And I most definitely do not have a personal problem with Kush (or was not aware of one, if there was lolol).Rajbir said:i know harry and jaskaran and they are not people to steal from another team. just like u accused us of stealing your "hand drawn" logo, you need to relax with the accusations u make. you are jeopardizing the reputation of teams based on your "2 cents". constructive criticism is fine, but please dont tarnish the hard work of others for shit like this. if u have a personal problem with kush then leave it elsewhere. but dont knock on all the hard work the gator guys have put in.
and to be honest, you talk a lot online, but are rather quit in person. u should share your two cents in person more often.
kinnell, with the attitude u have on this forum, you bring a lot of negativity towards your teams. when people hate kinnell, eventually they are going to start hating FAUJ and AEG, and im sure ur guys dont want all that negativity. try n relax. im asking sincerely. dont be so harsh.
honestly, i do agree with literally almost everything you say man. derivatives and being against them makes complete sense, and we should all strive for our own originality, something i will def do in the future. its, like what rajbir said, the tone that you say it in. as much as i wanna agree with you, and im sure the other people on this forum do, we cant caus your being such a douche about it. no, im not trynna tell you to be like "oh excuse me sir did you maybe by any chance get that idea from here, if im wrong im really really sorry i love you", but you dont have to convey the message in a way it seems like your attacking people. when people are attacked/put down, they are gonna defend themselves.Sue Sylvester said:Hahah I was actually wondering when you would jump in on this!sumeetj said:+1 khushy. +1 indeed.![]()
