Lol no I want you to you to do it because you do a good job normally and also I'm not that vela and don't care enough to fly halfway across the country. It's just that lately I don't want to be getting migraines everytime I watch a performance.

It's okay to not like how someone did something - and it's okay to let them know that too. But I would recommend letting them know in a positive, kind manner, as opposed to one that is attacking and rude. Harjot is the biggest supporter of the Bhangra community that I have ever met, and it hurts to see someone so quickly forget that. You're point has been made, and that is enough. Harjot, personally I am a big fan of the camera views, I think it adds a lot of dynamism in the video and better shows the energy and power on stage. Once again, thank you for all that you do.

Regarding the video cuts,

While I think the Go Pro adds a certain dimension to watching the performance, I would agree that it does take away from the viewing experience at times more than it adds.

Heres why,
I get the feeling that you were trying to make the video more of an experience that could be more exciting via a new perspective that was a bit closer to the bhangra experience; and with the lens of a Go Pro a more first-person view. The idea is a good one however I think it is met with some criticism because many of your viewers are other dancers themselves. As a result, they (and myself) like to watch an overview (balcony view) of the performance almost at all times so that they can see how the entire stage looked at any given moment.

I think the main issue with the cuts is the sudden shift in perspective that is a discombobulating to the viewer. Since the shift is so sudden and short-lived, the viewer needs a second to analyze what is going on before rejoining the exciting moment. Furthermore, the perspective is so different (balcony view down to below the dancers)

For those watching strictly from a entertainment perspective, it could be different. For example, in the WSA mini-challenge video that you filmed, the quick cuts and post-production value is awesome because the sole purpose of that video really was to make a unique and exciting experience where people cared less about the choreography and performance.

A continuous viewpoint offers a more consistent viewing experience because the attention is never broken (gentle panning is always appreciated because the perspective is maintained, and its always dope when you do that)


To try and get best of both worlds, my suggestion is to leave the top right space as the Go Pro view, but to leave the balcony view permanently in full screen.


Love the backstage footage, always adds so much because we get to learn a little bit about who our fellow dancers are.

Yep, he asks for song listing, dancers (and colors), instrumentalists, and any other information we want posted.
It pretty much includes everything we could want to post.

All teams are required to fill out a video registration form (http://registration.gabroo.tv) The video is not posted or released to the team without the form. The replies from this form feed directly into the GTV Master schedule, making my life easy, with all the data in one place.

One suggestion: maybe add a field for a Soundcloud link to the team's mix?

Great suggestion. If you look at the GTV schedule, you'll see there is a field for "Audio DL". That's exactly what this is for. I'm still planning on how to launch this, but I'm brainstorming and thinking somewhere along the lines of making all mixes publicly available for download in the video description after 1 year. This is to help promote positive growth in the circuit by making these mixes available to people all over the world. The reason I don't link to Soundcloud accounts is because I do not have control over what is located at that hyperlink. Having the reach that GTV has, I really try to minimize the possibility of having any offensive material populate when a link is clicked. When this feature is launched, the files will be downloaded straight from the GTV server. Yes, we still have a dedicated server even though all the videos are on YouTube

I imagine the reposting/resharing of the video after a year once the mix download has been posted would be good for bringing back old videos and giving them more exposure, but is there any other specific reason for this?

My guess is that the reason's two-fold. First, the traffic/exposure bump. Second is probably to prevent mix-jacking or cut-pasting of various mix segments. Not 100% sure this is the case, but that's my thoughts.

Isn't the music for GTV videos coming directly from the the venue's soundboard? I thought that's how you had it setup Harjot. I remember that in the past, GTV had to gather team mixes directly so that during editing, audio could be overlayed on top of the GTV video that was captured. From my understanding, thesedays the primary audio is now feed into the video camera via XLR connection. The only other audio added in (during editing) might be from the stage mic recorders. If this is not the case, please feel free to correct me Harjot.

My opinion may be biased on the matter, but I feel that releasing the mix should be at the sole discrection of the team & their mixer (whoever they choose to get the mix done through). They should have full control on if or when they want to release their mix, since they are already giving up "rights" on releasing their videos on GTV (a team can only delay their video from getting released for so long).

I personally don't think GTV should "force" teams to submit a mix at all. I guess that I don't see the point of having it on the GTV registration form and having to manage when to release a team's mix as well (which just adds another date to worry about).

It's not very hard for a team member to get on BTF and upload their mix, therefore sharing it with everyone here. It definitely wouldn't hurt BTF's reputation if Harjot could include "Looking for the team's mix? Join www.bhangrateamforum.com and search for it!" in the youtube description Self pump. haha.

These days, there are 4 stereo tracks of audio down-compressed into 1.
- Direct balanced XLR feed from the mixer (does not go into camcorder)
- Stage mic
- Camera mic
- Rear venue mic

These 4 audio tracks are equalized and compressed quite extensively to get the sound that we get. This is the very reason some of the recent videos sound more "real" to the point where you can even hear people clapping and whistling so clearly.

In respect to requiring teams to submit mix information. Imagine the benefit of this years down the road when these videos will be viewed by coming generations. Will the next generation really know what Manak E's Lakh Hilda is, or how big of an impact it had in the scene many moons ago? They will not. However, if they gain access to this library, hear the song, see the choreo, they can bounce it around in their heads and use it to create something new (bring back the old school vibe). They may even copy it, which if you ask me, is just fine, because it is again keeping them occupied and busy away from other external (sometimes negative) activities.


Having audio download links will do more good than bad. I can't begin to imagine what the mixers of today will do when I start releasing direct feeds of live boli recordings. The benefit will be enormous.

The amount of work you put into those videos is basically indescribable. People basically imagine you with a camera holding it still and then going home and dubbing the video! lol the truth is i can tell with all your new on stage camera and microphones and interviews that even after 10 years YOU STILL CARE! and when people like Mr. Jatt attack you for experimenting and evolving how we watch bhangra, it just sickens me. That being said the reason why i always loved your views was due to its clarity and angle compared to Bhangra idols who have a million different angles and switch-offs making the experience of watching confusing and distracting sometimes taking away from the performance! But luckily since your Harjot Hundal YOU LISTENED and after watching SMD at warrior i saw that you took the go pro View and attacthed it to the top right where a live teams band usually goes! SEE HE LISTENS! SO EVERYONE ELSE HATING ON HIM NEEDS TO CALM DOWN SO HE CAN UPLOAD MORE VIDEOS FOR US #10years
